No sealer should be required if the parts & holes are all on size, it does not take a great seal to hold the 2 or 3 PSI the tank develops when warm.

Hi All
I need a McCulloch socket to remove the rod bolts on a 101 Kart engine.
Can these still be bought? Does anyone have one they would sell?

Guy on eBay has been selling a socket and two new rod bolts, like$99! Terry Ives has been using the 91 series rod bolts (Allen head)to replace the splined, one time use thou.

It's a 6 spline 1/4" drive .odd ball thing .It also comes in a handle type thing similar to an Allen wrench .They are where you find them .A guy out in Nevada who changed his seller name a zillion times on flea bay used to sell them .He tried to put the screws to me and I won't buy a damned thing from him any more . I had to enlighten him of what mail fraud is .
The rod bolt if memory serves is a grade 8 10-32 by 5/8" .The special head is smaller than a regular cap screw and neither a button head nor a low head will work in it's place because of clearance to the stuffer .
I cut down some down in the lathe to narrow the head using Hollow Chrome brand cap screws which are about the best on the market .
If in the event I ever have to get back into the 125 those bolts are on I would cut down more and not reuse those bolts .

I'm 90% certain I bought my spline tools from Zoe Chugg (Vintage Vixen) before her problems. I don't know if she is still/back in business these days.

I would like a splined socket, but the eBay prices are killing me, the last original was $125!!!! But it looks like an eBay seller has a sorce for suitable new sockets...I wish I knew his source!

Well it's a subject that comes up every so of in McCulloch owners .You can cut the heads off the cap bolts with a die grinder and pop off the rod cap and get it apart . Once the torque is off the bolts they could be backed out by hand .Then comes what to replace them with .My idea works but the average owner doesn't have a precision lathe to cut down the heads like I did .
They make reverse torx head cap screws and 12 point screws .I don't know if they are as small as 10-32 though . More info .The special bolts are about .264" across the widest point of the head .A grade 8 10-32 socket head is .306" .

The e8 socket dosen’t work on these, unless the snap-0n is different than all of the other brands out there, need to be an e9

I don't know if it would help but on the McCulloch socket it's marked 1620 .

Sounds good. I just measured the tank opening from a Pro 10-10 tank at .254" for the wall thickness and a .416" diameter opening. Seems like I remember a thicker tank wall somewhere along the line, too. Maybe an older 10-10A? Don't have one handy to check but it wouldn't surprise me to find several different wall thicknesses across the range of years the 10-10's were produced. I guess if the grommet is snug enough otherwise, you could trim off the collar on the end going into a thicker tank wall and still make it work.

If nothing else you could jam it in the hole with a liberal coating of Permatex permashield .If you ever had to change it you'd have to cut it out but it wouldn't leak .Catch a chainsaw on fire sometime which I have .It's nothing to laugh about believe me .

Just a little motivation to get out there and work off some of that Thanksgiving turkey. I posted this on The Mac thread because the sp125 and the 101b did all of the big cutting. The 088 has a ripping chain so it did all the ripping. I'm still smiling a day later thinking about all the fun I had.
