Not sure how nice your project is but I bought a couple of complete clutch covers from my dealer. I think I paid $65 a piece.

Which worm gear you needing? I only ask because I found out there are more than one different style and I got the wrong one. If the one I have is what you need it is yours.

Here's the pump from my 1986 281. It takes the smaller diameter worm gear. Here are both worm gears. The one on the right is missing part of it and I believe it was melted off. The one on the left is from the later 281/288.

Early models have a dust shield built on the oil pump, later they had it built on the worm gear

I believe it is the large one, but I will inspect it next weekend and get a better idea, I was wholly unaware there were two sizes.

I was told today that I may be able to use the large one. There may be a pressed in washer that pops out!

Thanks to @Onan18 I found out the outside ring on my pump was a pressed in washer and when I popped it out my large worm gear fits perfectly!
