Do any of you climbers use a chainsaw bridge? Why or why not? I’m thinking of adding one to my saddle to balance loads at center instead of side. Also to make it easier reaching either side.

Haven’t heard of a bridge..

I have my lanyard on my left hand and my saws on my right.
I put the saddle end of the chainsaw lanyard in the rear center ring of my saddle.

This is what I use

Have only seen a few of them but I’m liking the idea. I have been putting saw on my left hip clip most of the time due to nearly always leading with right side of body. Just a thought to try here if it doesn’t work like I hope then off it will come.

Post #174 shows this on a sequoia saddle.

Never heard of a chainsaw bridge before. I have 4 small Petzl Caritool’s installed around my Tree Motion. I have my lanyard on my left, and usually clip my chainsaw onto the rearmost right side caritool to position it farther to the center. However, in some positions I can’t reach that and I’ll clip it to the foreward most caritool.

No, my teufelberger breakaway lanyard's main support is attached to the rear life support ring of my treemotion. The saw hangs from my right dmm vault. Have to pass it round the back for real far left reaches, but that doesn't bother me. That also keeps the breakaway lanyard as far away from my life support as possible.

Got it.

I can’t say that I’ve needed a set up like that.
And I do switch-hit pretty often.
I’m a lefty after all.

Generally I run short of saw lanyard when I’m trying to one hand far out on a limb.
Usually it makes more sense to climb out a bit farther, get in a strong safe stance and make a good cut.

I’ve climbed with larger saws enough.
It’s not all that often that I need longer reach with that either.

I do not climb with my saw dangling.
Even with a bigger saw or when chunking down.
I see some that do and i don’t see much use in it.

I vote nay.

I use a Buckingham Tear-Away chainsaw lanyard. That way if it ever gets pinched and pulled away from me, it doesn’t take me with it - or try to anyway.

And for the record, I never one-hand my saws. Even my top handle. Call me Mr Safety if ya want, I guess that’s the way I was trained and it’s always been against our company policy and ANSI standards I’m told. Not trying to stir the pot here though.

Only if you let it hang that far down while moving. I rigged one up we’ll see how I like it. It’s been “cold” and piss pooring rain for 2.5 days 6+ inches so far. supposed to possibly stop Friday. We’ll see though. On the bright side all the stock tanks are full, but area creeks and rivers. Any handle anymore water Leon river is at 29’ flood stage is considered 22.

@chipper1 Just now noting the chain you referenced yeah that could make life a bit difficult.

Yes, it's quite large lol.
That's a lot of rain down that way. We got dumped on earlier this month but it was spread out pretty good, we got over flood stage a bit and the water was in the fair grounds right by our house. We live right in a large(for here) river valley so we notice the changes a lot because we cross the river often. The good thing for us is if the river was high enough to flood us I suppose a good portion of Michigan would be covered by water as we are up almost to the top of the river valley. I'm gonna have to look at some maps now to see what our elevation is here lol.

I keep the lanyard on the harness and change saw when needed, got this one from tresstuff I think, has a double clip on the end of the lanyard and a double clip that stays on each saw. That and a dmm vault make life easy, saves cutting or having to take lanyards off. Hip bag keeps lanyard tail out of your feet too.
