Went to use saw today and it started acting like it was running out of gas. Finally got to clean card ,checked impulse line, filter and fuel line. Haven't had much time to really get into it. Do have two other saws to swap carbs with when I get time. Just sounds like an airleak maybe to me. Idk

Possible, if you have the carb off, you might as well pressure and vacuum test.

An air leak will usually make them go lean and rev to the moon. I think it would have to be a really big leak for it to die out like that, then it probably wouldn't start at all.

Make sure the coil isn't grounding out/ pull the wires off the switch. Check for bare spots etc.

After watching the video again, do the pressure and vac test.... it could be leaking. Sounds kinda wonky....

Still could be the coil. Is it aftermarket or OEM??

It's all OEM. This is the saw my son and I built as a father son project last winter. Total rebuild all the way to the seals and bearings. I'll try and do a pressure test later this afternoon when I get off work. I don't have a way to do a vacuum test yet.

Pressure test will be sufficient.

Dont know why i just remembered this but after i posted video. I went back out to shop and with saw running I could push on the side of airfilter and move carb ti either side front to back and saw would respond differently. That's what made me think more about an air leak in that area.

Bad intake boot. I replaced one on a 385 this year.

The return spring holes on the carb body of the choke butterflies have leaked on a couple of carbs I have come by. Took me forever to diagnose the first one. It gives similar symptoms to what your vid shows. It’s as if the holes are drilled too far and then leak through the sprung ball of the choke butterfly shaft.

Hope this makes sense. It does in my head.

I swapped the walbro over to my 365 and its doing pretty much the same thing it did on my 371xp. Even put a fresh kit in it and no change.

Pressure can often mask or "fix" a vacuum leak.
Welp...in the 371/372 the most likely place it will leak is the PTO side and pressure will find it.

I do both but if you don't have that option, a regulator set at 5psi or so and a tub of water is a great way to find air leaks.

Well that was easy. I have had good luck with an aftermarket on a 2071. I have 2 or 3 HD12s that I can't get right.
