The AV on the 357 does make it smoother in the hands though
There's your FTW statement. I bought mine brandy new and got to know it very well before port work. I was very surprised how much it gained with a good break in. After Dan... wow! Perfection. Add a good sharp Razer chain and I'm a happy fellow.

Yes! When I got the first 357xp, I was very impress with how smooth the saw was! 562xp is even more smooth and is faster than a stock 357.

Just wondering what saw you guys have that you feel doesn't get the admiration it deserves.
For me it is my 254xpg ported by @rattler, little saw just impresses me everytime I take it out, I know the 242 and 262 booth get a lot of desevered admiration as they should but the 254 kinda gets overlooked I think.

put a hda-87 carb on that sucker and you'll be blown away.

A bit off tophic, a 1000$ saw doesnt belong in the class of underrated saws.
I still feel that 246 and 254 is very underrated saws, since both where kinda in the shadows of two legends.

I've changed a bit if we're speaking about favourite saws in the last months.
As alrounds, I used to favour a healthy 346 and 550, and if I needed anything bigger I always had a few other ported saws like 357 and 262 xpg.
That pretty much changed after I build up a 560 xpg who had had a bearing failure, when it comes to a slim build saw they are very close to 550, heavier yes but I never felt the extra weight, she may be my favourite alround saw!

The saw in my profile picture is the most under rated saw I've ever owned! I think that they're labelled a 360T in the US? I bought it new over 9 years ago. I don't own a chipper, so my saws get used to cut up the branches in my trailer, to maximise space & reduce costs, as well as working on trees. It runs alongside a 200T, a 540T, and a 355T. I read a lot of uncomplimentary things about them on the net, but I'd rate it right up there with the 200T & ahead of the other two.

Until recently I though it was no longer holding compression. But it turns out that the Easy Start spring in the recoil starter had gone soft. I replaced the recoil with a non-easy start one from my parts box & it's pretty obvious that the saw still has HEAPS of compression!

I had a hard time getting $300 out of it when I sold it, in truth it’s 1 saw that I really regret selling. It was worth more then I sold it for just based upon performance.

Echo cs520. It was a 346 killer in randy’s Words. In the video it does 3 second cuts

The 520/530 was almost completely ignored when new, but seems to be developing a cult following. There is a ported one for sale on the Echo/Shindaiwa FB group.
