Well live and learn as they say! I ordered a gasket set for a ms460 simply because I couldn't find one for a ms461. Here is what I found out: seals appear to be the same, crank bearings appear to be the same, crankshaft appears to be the same, the cylinder gasket and more importantly the case gasket is definitely DIFFERENT! There went my afternoon chainsaw repair therapy session. :( I got the bearings seated on the new crank and got the crankshaft assembled to the flywheel side of the case and the seal put in, but that was as far as I could go. Oh yeah, I also got the caber rings put on the meteor piston and the piston slid into the cylinder.

Many parts are the same, but the cases and jugs are very different. 461 is a quad port, 460 a dual port. On a 461, the case feeds the transfers in the front of the cylinder. On a 460 the upper + lower transfers are on the sides of the cylinder.

The 461 also has an internal saddle (to cool the piston) that you will not find on a 460.

Part number for gasket set, 1128 007 1600

Usually there is a gasket set on eBay but I don't see any right now.

Just crankcase gasket 1128 029 0505

Just cylinder gasket 1128 029 2310

I was sent a gasket set in error that I was told was for a 441. The part # is 1138-007-1050. (I had ordered for a 440).

It included case gasket, cylinder gasket, seals and exhaust gasket.

Cranks seals should not be installed until the case halves are together and the crank centered. Otherwise, it's very difficult to tell when the side loads are relieved on the bearings.
