Thanks Wayne.

Mark

How is there a million 10 series macs out there but not 1 fuel cap on ebay? I've been looking for a while now too. I really just need the duckbill, brass piece and the other bits. My p/m 55 gas cap has none of the vent pieces just the cap itself. I'll give it another week then I'll really look into the gas cap fixes in this and the 10 series threads.

It is no guarantee that a different fuel cap will come with all of the pieces, let alone be leak proof. Start collecting fuel caps, buy some gaskets off e-Bay, and pick up some of the Poulan duckbill valves so you can rebuild them yourself.

Or just start buyin' more 10-10's!

A duckbill, some small diameter tubing, maybe a small flat washer and a dab of Seal-All here or there could probably fix you right up. Just need to fashion something to keep the duckbill in place.

Can anyone advise on the correct starter rope length and diameter for:
1. a 2-10
2. a 7-10 Automatic
The rope seems a "touch" short on my 2-10 and the one on the 7-10 is definitely not original - just couple more things to sort before running them properly....
Thanks in anticipation.

I think I put about 4 feet on there of #4 rope. I just wrap it on there till it is full.

The manual calls for 50" on right hand starters and 42" for LH starters.

Mac says approximately 50 inches, but not more that 53 and not less than 41. Gives you a little wiggle room. Depending on the pulley, #4 may be a little thick for threading through the channel in the hub if it's one of those. Think I used 3.5mm on my last replacement with no issues.

Which manual, Tim? I was just using the general 10 series manual and didn't see (or get to) the two different lengths.

3.5 sounds right. I usually buy 25 feet at a time from my dealer and it's been awhile.

Found the 42" under 'left side elements'. Duh. Bout had a seizure trying to read through my copy of the manual lookin' for it, tho. I can only guess, but it appears to be a copy of a copy of badly scanned microfiche and gets more difficult to read every time I refer to it these days..., even with cheater glasses. Yep. Gettin' old.

I checked a few 10 series I have and some have 3.5 mm rope (size 4.5) and some have 4mm rope size 5

If you don't have this manual, let me know and I'll send you a link to it.

I picked up with Titan 7 in Baraboo a couple of weeks ago, I had some time today so I thought I'd give it a good going over.

Before:

During:

I had to replace the o-ring in the oil pump, the grommets for the lower anti-vibe, and the intake boot.

After:

I will need to try and glue some of the decals back down as they are in pretty rough shape. It now runs nicely without the excessive smoke it was making when I got it.

I got one of those back last spring. I'd sold it new back in 94. Haven't had time to even clean it yet.

Fossil, I'd appreciate the link as well - have been failing to find hard copy manuals etc for these saws....

To all who have replied to my enquiry - thank you - you are adding to my knowledge of these saws!
