I don't understand why these gun shops don't give you a box of ammo when you buy from them. They aint loosing anything the way they have the guns marked up.

It would be nice, huh? My local guy actually doesnt make much on new guns. Used guns, ammo, and accessories are the real profit makers. His prices are often better than the big retailers in fact.

Now, Cabela's and pawn shops will gouge you on gun prices if they can get away with it. Usually they come back down to earth if you bargain a little.

Cabela's is always good for a laugh. Their prices on guns, especially used, are absurd.

Oh yeah. I think alot of their clientele doesn't shop anywhere else. The indoor range south of Lexington is the same way. You can tell that many of their customers have zero experience with guns and probably never seek out real gun shops. Plus, free hour on the range with every gun purchased. I would say many of them cant resist the temptation to buy a gun and then get to immediately try it out.

A business should be free to charge what they want as long as they are not deceptive, I get that. Its just funny how so many folks get tunnel vision and suddenly conclude that this is the only place they can buy a gun, car, chainsaw, whatever.

The awesomest thing about the 6.5 Creedmoor is that, according to the usual standards of what makes for a trendy rifle cartridge, it should have stumbled out of the gate and not got up again in 2007. It's not a giant magnum nor is it a boutique cartridge for the AR-15. Its a squat little round that looks Dolly Parton top heavy when loaded with a 140 grain slug. In fact it even committed the blasphemy of having less powder capacity than the 6.5's that preceded it.

According to the usual standards, the 6.5 Creedmoor should have gone no farther than to pick up a loyal benchrest or varminter following. Instead, the little 6.5 just keeps gaining momentum, to the point that it may join the tiny echelon of enduring cartridges that serve as the standard bearers for centerfire rifles. And I think that is great!

You will love that 6.5 Creedmoor, just a fantastic cartridge that’s inherently accurate if you do your part. I have a few friends that have them and they all love them. It was on a short list of calibers that I was considering when looking for a dedicated sheep hunting rifle. I ended up going with the 6.5 x 284 but I’m sure the Creedmoor will enter my gun safe at some point in the near future.

Thanks, I am looking forward to it. Unfortunately I have no idea when I'll be able to do so. Rain, work, farm, and parenting has eaten up my shooting time to practically nothing. I already have a neck size die for it, I guess I'll slowly accumulate what I need until I can finally take it for a test drive.

Alot of folks say that the 6.5 is overpressured for the long distance shooting games, and barrel life suffers. Which is plausible, given that they are reporting 2700-2900 fps with a 140 grain bullet out of a case that is based on the little .250 Savage. I'm going to try for 2400 fps with excellent accuracy.

I have a 700 long range in .300WM.
Heavy to tote all day, but I have no complaints other than that. Its been a great rifle so far.

Yup. Diamondback HP 4-16. I have the same one on my Browning A-bolt in 7mm Rem Mag.
I have not really taken the time (lazy I guess) to work up too much for handloads for it, but when it shoots plain old Remington Core-lokt 180's in 1" 5shot groups at 200, it's fine for most of what I encounter. I did find that it hates the handloads I had for my previous Browning .300WM.

The 700 long range comes with that stock. Bell and Carlson M40. It's no lightweight for sure. I think no optics is 9lbs.?

Perfect, that's about what my .257 weighs. More weight=better accuracy and funner to shoot.

I run a Vortex Diamondback HP on mine also! Been very pleased with it. 4-16x42 with the sun shade.

Very nice! Is that one an ADL Varmint? I can't think of a single place around here where you could take a shot like that, the hills are spaced really close together.

Yes it is. Chambered 22-250 Rem. I love the 26” varmint barrel!

Hills are too close at home for me to shoot that far also - so I traveled to South Dakota for a couple days of trigger therapy on some PDogs. Got to stretch out passed 500 yards. Most shots were 300 and under though.
