056 Mag2 and 038 Mag2 are documented real OEM versions
all of the super magnums appear to be dealer made concoctions
From the info I have on them, I would say the 044 super magnums were distributor made, in conjunction with a few dealers in the PNW. Not necessarily OEM factory stihl saw. But something a stihl distributor did to boost sales, and have a off the shelf hot rod available to customers.
I have a 044 super magnum in my collection, and have pictures of 6 other 044 super magnums saved on my computer, that I've found on the net for sale. I also seen a few 064's and 066's super magnums, and 024 and 026's as well.
When I 1st acquired mine, I called the dealer where it was sold new, to get more info on it, I talked to the parts counter guy who had worked there since the beginning of time, he told me the local stihl distributor worked in conjunction with some dealers in the area, had some port work done to the cylinders, a few mods to the carb, and they put a deflector on the flywheel side of muffler can. And the distributor is the ones who came up with the super magnum stickers.
Neat saw to own either way! Here is a pic of mine.
