Needs a used AF cover to match the ‘patina’. [emoji848]

Mine does, too. Can't quite tell if that one is a flat top by the pic. Looks to be in nice shape. Aftermarket tank/handle?

I see now, and the 260 style air filter cover. Looks good. You could always put a 260 shroud on it.

Here's the one I'm trying to rescue. Couldn't even tell what it was when I got it..., except burned up. Only needed a top end rebuild and is turning out nice. Just got a WT 194 from the bay -- $48. Didn't want to fight with a Chinese carb on this one and may even keep it for myself. Just needs an old style filter cover and filter if anyone happens to have same for sale or trade. Definitely want to stay original with it.

Well folks, Dad joined the MS170 club. He needed a small saw for stuff at his new house. I would gladly give him one out of my fleet but I suppose he wanted a new one. My Dad is very talented at using a small saw on giant trees. When I was a kid he cut some real monsters with his Homelite Super 2 and heated our home with wood.

Anyhow, anything he needs to watch out for or be aware of? Any mods that need to be done to it for long life? I'm planning to get him a better chain for it.

Not much to mod on a MS170 except the chain. May not even have an adjustable carb on it. Don't be surprised if he's disappointed in it compared to his old Super 2. Clean air filter is a must on em. Carbs are like $15 if it starts running weird and should be a warranty item for two years if he bought some Ultra with the saw.

Speakin' of carbs, what ever happened with your 026 carb situation? Or did I miss somethin' there?

Dad is mostly using it to trim trees at his residence so I doubt he is going to work it very hard. My fleet of saws is at the farm and ready to handle more challenging stuff.

As to the 024, I got it to where it starts easily and cuts well. The idle is still not real good. I think maybe I need to clean out the passages one more time. Right now is the busy time of year for fixing cars and machines, I'll fiddle with the 024 more in the fall.

Any ‘gotchas’ using an 024 crankcase to build an 026?

I have a salvaged 026 cylinder, an extra 44mm piston kit and an 024 carcass.

With an evilbay crank assembly we can get ‘er done.[emoji6]

I think I have an extra cover. Not sure how nice it is.

I found some stuff. Cover is OEM and isn’t cracked. Could use some cleaning. The handle is in nice shape. It does have a small nick in the rubber though.69AC00DC-B553-4008-8A79-6483A7C251E1.jpegF26A176E-3CCF-4589-BF2C-DE8A4E53E7B7.jpeg77222C3B-8F86-4CB2-BB80-A0055C7131B8.jpeg7012346F-EC09-4365-819D-DF408D57CF0B.jpeg

Cases will be the same with the later version having the provision in the bottom for an adjustable oiler. Crank will need to be a later crank for the 024S/026/MS260 (1121-030-0405) with the longer 026 stroke. (An 024S is essentially an 026.)

Started up all my runners today and cut some cookies with most of them. I figured while I had them out and in one place I better take some pics.

built this from the crank up. Can’t get it to fire up . Won’t get gas to the carb. Runs if I spray some two stroke thru intake
