300 ultra necked up.

Gotcha. But how much difference is it between the .338edge and the .338 ultra? Is the shoulder angle different and is the should pushed forward more or back further? Oops never mind I just saw the post explaining.

I shoot an Armalite AR50 for my long range gun. At 40lbs, it's a good thing it has a lot of reach. You sure can't carry it very far.
It's fun to shoot. 30-06 class recoil.

That's sweet! A friend of mine has one of those although I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet but his setup is pretty sweet. His is topped with a Leupold 8.5 to 25 30mm tube and the best part is he has the Barret BORES system attached to his scope if you are familiar with that.

I'm already scheming to put a different stock on this thing as soon as I bail it out. Anybody have experience with Boyd's laminate stocks? I really like laminate, gunmakers should use it instead of cheapo black plastic.

I'm familiar with the BORES system but have never used one.

Yes they are very nice stocks and have a very tough matte finish. I've worked with a few and sometimes you have to do some minor inleting in the action area to get it to fit. If you want to take on the inleting yourself and don't have the tools you can score a nice set of small chisels at Harbor freight for cheap! And if you decide that you want to put a gloss oil rubbed finish on it they don't seem to take the finish as well as a solid one piece of wood. I am thinking it may be due to the glue from the laminations clogging up the pores of the wood.

Thanks. I can get the OEM stock Cerakoted for $50.00, or get the Boyd's for around $150.00 delivered. Or, I can rattlecan it with Krylon Fusion as I did the stock on my my .257 for whatever a can of the stuff costs nowadays. Fusion actually holds up really well to hunting use. Probably just go with whatever I can afford after I bail it out.

I've decided to get the 700 BDL floorplate and magazine for the rifle as this opens up alot more options as far as stocks go. Currently bidding on a new take-off Hogue green stock with BDL components on Gunbroker right now.

I have several of the boydes stocks.
I have had real good luck with them and will definitely be ordering more in the future when needed.
I like a laminated stock for my personal use.
Not fond of plastic.

I don't mind plastic. I just hate how nearly all plastic stocks are just the same old black with no color choices. Would it really hurt to offer a few different colors to choose from? Doesn't even have to be camo or anything trendy. Maybe just brown, gray, OD green in addition to black.

Lol that would be a start. I don't care for the feel of it myself.
That being said I can normally get the cheep rifle and put a good stock on it cheaper than a better gun. But it still works just as well

Yes indeed. The 700 ADL is $439.95, still about 150 less than the BDL SPS with the same cheap stock. I won the new Hogue stock with BDL floorplate and mag for $100.00. I may go ahead and flip the stock since it is not really the one I want.

Yep, gonna have to flip the Hogue stock. It fits the 700 Tactical, which has a much thicker barrel.

If all goes right I should be able to bail out the 700 this week. I found a used stock on Fleabay for cheap and ordered it. I used Krylon Fusion OD green to paint the stock on my .257 and it works great, holds up to the expected scratches and dings of hunting really well. So, I'm planning to paint this one sort of a medium flat gray with Fusion.

This has been an expensive summer. I finally bailed out the 700 yesterday, but couldn't even scrape up an extra $20.00 for a box of factory ammo to go with it. Oh well, at least it's home now. I'll go ahead and get the scope mounted.
