Anyone directly compared the new 462 to the new 572 yet?

So true there Mike ,I could only imagine the emissions coming out the rear of a jet airliner leave the saws alone

I would respect the standards more if they actually made any sense. The emission standard is that a saw of X size can only emit Y amount of exhaust. There is no correlation to performance/work accomplished. They will give up 20% performance to gain 5% less emissions. I go with the opposite!

Makes no sense to run a saw with 5% less emissions if the job takes you 20% longer.

Stroke ain’t everything sometimes imo. It does help though. For example a 395/661 has more torque than a 660 and the 660 has a longer stroke. I think there trying to get the top end hp with the stuffers yet keep the torque with the longer stroke in my humble opinion.

All joking aside @CapitaineHaddoc since it seems you have had been around both, which one has to be hooked up to a computer more often?
Honestly, until now I heard twice about 462's with Mtronic issues.

And nothing about the 572.

This means nothing, there's more 462s than 572's around here.

But to be fair, I saw many Stihl saws with Mtronic issues, and I never saw an Autotune failure.

Anything specific with the M-tronic?

I think a lot of the electric carb issues are possibly magnified on the forums. We’re the minority of people running these saws.

I'm not talking about chainsaw nerds like us, I'm talking about professional loggers i'm working with.

But the main reason of the MTronic issues is pretty easy to guess. The MTronic saws don't have a regular "manual starter" position, and the biggest issue is the impossibility to restart the saws when they're warm. This can't happen on the AT saws.
The other common issue we have with MTronic saws is pretty weird, they begin to run fatter, and then they stop when they should idle. Every time, these saws had to be re-tuned by the closest Stihl dealer.

That's the info I was looking for. Squirrelly stuff like that. Is this on the new version 3 462s or across the whole line of mtronic saws?

And I'm not trying to brand bash I have various models from both brands.

People keep saying that the 462 has a small fuel tank when it is 'normal' sized for that class of saw. I had always thought that MT saws sounded like they were running a fair bit fatter than AT, not neccesarily a bad thing of course. I asked if anyone had pics of an AT saws plug a while back and someone posted one that looked grey in color and my simple mind was blown. Anyone mind indulging me with a pic of a stock MT saws plug?

I saw these issues on many 362 and 441, and I saw 2 flooded 462. In less than 6 months, my coworker had his 362 reprogrammed twice.

It's not brand bashing, the MTronic is obviously the most advanced technonlogy, that's why so many guys like it. A good friend of mine is a skidder, he has only Mtronic saws on his skidder now, he told me they always start in 1 or 2 pulls when he has something to buck, and he can't expect that with AT saws.

But it seems like the most advanced technology is also the most fragile, that's my point.

I believe the durability will come with time. As Randy mentioned once how early auto fuel management systems were fragile and finicky at times. And now they are rock solid.

I have my 462 about a month and have ran roughly a hundred litres through it in that time with no problems of hot starting but the thing that really gets on it is when fine dust gets in around the fuel cap on the saw and when you go to fill up again with fuel you can wash that dust into the tank

That’s every saw imho. That’s why I always carry a rag with me to wipe the caps off.

So the 572 has a crank stuffer and longer stroke than the 372. Has anyone seen if that crank will fit in the 372 crank case with minimal massaging + jug spacer? Sounds like it would make a mean and super light 83cc saw.
