The standard 046 and the 461 seem to have a bit of a torque edge over a hybrid, but I haven’t ran a hybrid enough in a work setting to really comment about that. Probably depends on who built it like deets mentioned.

Lots of mention of saws above 81cc but what about the slightly under crowd like the 372XPW and 046/460/461? I’ve only run one stock 281 and I was impressed, I don’t feel my stock 288 had anything over it. That being said, my XPW will pull a 28” bar in hardwood just as good or better than my 288, but my XPW is ported and as mentioned my 288 is stock less the base gasket. I really want to try a 7900 but no one around here has one.

I think an interesting comparison would be 281 vs XPW vs 461 vs 7900

The 461 has more torque than the xpw and might edge out the xpw in timed cuts, especially with a long bar. Would be close. I need to get some more time on a 7910 series myself.

Yeah, 7910 is fast and smooth. But if I’m workin all day with a saw it’s gunna be my 461. Randy did a helleva job, it’s a well mannered beast.

All this talk about 7910’s ...

What would the populace prefer? A 044/6 Hybrid or a 7910?

I haven't had a xpw but I have had both the oe and x torque 372's and both were mastermind worksaws and both ran really well my favorite of the two was the oe for sure though, it was faster and more responsive running between the two. Im not sure how much stronger an xpw could be but I wouldn't bet on any of the 372 huskies over a 461 once the bars start getting much over 20" and I am a husky fan. Those 461's don't play around! In the timed cut I watched in a video that mastermind did they were I believe running 28" bars in oak and the 461 was just as fast as my 665/7910 solo

044 046 or hybrid or 461 Id rather have a 461 I like them and there very strong
I think a 461 and a 7910 would be neck and neck

All depends on the builder and individual saw, any three are damn good saws

A Ported 461R is the all around most useable saw in this size for me.

It’s got the snout to run a 32” & walks away from all but a Ported 7900/7910.

I’m vested in Stihl with the B&Cs so I’ll keep running 461s.

The 7900/10 are smoother but different.

I just prefer the MS461R.

Is a 7900/7910 peakier power delivery than a 461 to you?

As my tagline suggests, I would roll with a 7910 or Echo 800. That is based strictly on my good experiences with their smaller brethren.

I like a lot of the echos, but I thought the 8000 weighed as much as my 395 after picking one up to be honest. Haven’t ran one though.

I've never handled an 8000. I handled an 800 at my dealer before I picked up my 7910. Its built like a tank but it pays for that with the weight.

According to the Acres site, the basic design goes back to the 1986 and hasn't changed a whole lot. So, it might be the last of that era still being sold in the USA. Kind of amazing to think that it's contemporaries included the Poulan 5400, Pro Mac 800, and Sachs-Dolmar 133. Yeah, I think I want one!

Iirc the biggest difference have been coil and a change to quad ports. I had a yellow one and the one thing that popped in to my head holding it was I can beat the *s-word out of this thing and it will take it! I find another one some day.

The guy that ported my 590 has talked about wanting to do an 800 so I may have to grab one some day and let him have his way with it.
