I have one that I think is a 1314 and a few 1300s, and the one I think might be the 1314 has a red wire on the back, and the 1300s have black, but I don't know if that means anything.

Have never seen a universal 1300 with the red wire. Just checked a MS460 I have here and it has the red wire coil which should be a 1314 given the poly f/w.

I have a 036 that has the red wire coil, I’m almost positive it’s the original. That should have been a 1300

So on my side bench here I have this 1996 066 with the first year heavy crank and poly flywheel and decomp valve.
Got this saw free a couple of years ago from a tree work customer that I did work for.
Has sat for 20 years with stale gas in it. Needs all new rubber parts but in solid new mechanical condition .
So I'm rebuilding it and it will handle 28"-36" b/c for my tree service seeing I sold my 395XP.

Last pic is my '92 066 Mag red light all in pieces ready for rebuild with new mains. This saw will also run in my tree service but with no dogs, only the smooth bumper I'm holding.
It will be sporting the narrow 064 flywheel and rewind housing and wearing 18"-20"-25" b/c.
So with this setup cooling is not an issue with the smaller 064 flywheel.
When I finish with it think of this 066 Mag as a 91cc MS460 with a heavy bottom end.

So still frustrated waiting for the MS462 has made me finish this 066/064 hybrid, Lol.
OEM rebuilt the 066Mag with new bearings, all new rubber parts.
Put a 1986 064 flywheel and rewind housing on along with the 064 brake lever and 1986 low profile caps and air filter cover knob.
Haven't used the saw since I bought my 395XP new in 2008. Sold the 395 last spring and now back running the 066 in my tree service fleet I don't miss the 395.

Running a 8 tooth .404 rim on the 066 at the start a month ago with a 18" loop of .050 Oregon 50AL chisel bit chain. (got over 50 feet of it.) The 066 RIPS , the 562XP-18" stays in the truck.Lol.

But since the last couple days now got a 20" ES Light bar on the 066 with a 8 tooth 3/8 gear.
For backup ES 25" 28" Oregon Pro36" all .050" with big dog sprocket cover.20180803_140828.jpg

So, I got my 1991 066 Mag Arctic down to 15 lbs 5 oz(15.31 lbs) from 17 lbs. as the first pic shows.
Still putting it on a further diet to get her into 14 lb. territory by another 5+ oz gutting the muffler and replacing the air compensate air filter system with a 1986 064 setup. Got a early 064 flat top WJ 6 cover and filter base. Just need to find a early 064 1122 120 1600 filter as my first pic shows.
The saw will only wear a 20" ES Light bar, no dogs just a smooth aluminum bumper.

Alongside my '91 066 as the 2nd pic shows is my first year poly flywheel and decomp 1996 066.
It will sport my 1991's heavy 9 oz dual outlet muffler front cover. The '91 got the '96s plain front cover.
The '96 will also sport the 28"-36" b/c and dogs.
Also replacing its air compensate WJ cover with a WJ flat top cover and will be running a early 064 HD filter setup.

For my tree service saw fleet these two 066s will do everything a MS462 and MS661 will do...if not better.

You can go even lighter by replacing the original 064 flywheel with a poly one from an 046.
Thanks Jim, I never thought of that.
I weighed the 066 poly flywheel you sent me , it weighs .15 oz
The 064 is 1 lb. 1 oz (2 oz more)
The 046 poly should be even lighter then the 066 poly.

The 066 arctic metal wheel weighs 1 lb. 5oz
The generator ring coil and other wiring with elements weighs another couple oz

The 046 flywheel is 12.4 ounces.
That's almost 5 oz lighter then the 064 flywheel I got on the 066 now.
At this rate I can easily get the saw down in the 14.5 lb range.

Last night I found 1 more ounce or 2 to lose by removing the 2 steel bar pad plates. Then replacing them with the factory teflon guide plugs. Only running a 20" Light bar on the saw so should be no issues. Same with running the 046 flywheel.
I gotta get a better scale like yours to make ounces into fractions.

I never tried the 064 coil with the 046 flywheel. I brought along the 046 coil too. If I remember correctly the 046 coil is a direct fit on the later case. They changed the mounting boss configuration at some point which will allow the 046 coil to fit directly, but with the other one you'll need to remove the armature from the 064 coil to swap it out with the one on the 046.

Jim, this is a first year 066 I got with a first year 064 flywheel on it that works good with the Red Light upgraded Iida 0000 400 1300 coil.
This coil should work with the 046 flywheel as it works good on most other Stihls.
My 1996 066 poly wheel has the 3 screw dog leg 1122 400 1312 coil.

Well I got my 066 Hybrid looking good, also now 14.87 lbs
(14lbs 14oz) PHO.

Lots of early 064 parts and just by replacing the heavy magnum dual port muffler with a gutted standard muffler saved over a half lb.
With a further addition of a 046 poly flywheel she'll be down to
14.6 lbs, same weight of a MS461 and 572XP plus upwards of 7.8 hp.
:)

She runs good. Really good.
Ran a 8 pin .404 on it and still pulled strong with the bar buried. Now wearing a 72LGX on a 8 pin.

Will take some mods like Jim said to get the 046 poly wheel to work. Hopefully the 0000 400 1300 coil will work on it. The rewind will need a 046 spool modded to fit the 064 housing. But if all works out the poly wheel should hyper up the 066's throttle response bit more plus another 5 oz weight saving.

Got the WJ carb converted to the non air compensating diaphragm flat cover to accept the lighter and oversized 1986 064 air filter and base. I think it breathes better then the 066 setup.

Got a pic here from last week of my 1996 066 alongside it with early 064 HD filter setup and being converted to non air compensation. That saw runs strong too with a new flywheel and piston Jim sent me. It's wearing the older 066's dual port muffler.
Forgot to take a picture of it in finished form, will post tomorrow.

Sure will Chris, just need to get some 046 parts piece by piece as the conversion progresses.
