I stumbled across the webpage for this firearms shop today. My jaw dropped at some of the fine pieces they have for sale, not only because of the pricetag but the sheer historical interest and value of some of those old rifles. An original Henry Repeater iron frame, serial number 90?? A highly ornate 17th century wheel lock musket?? If only they could talk! I just love old firearms!

I could never afford the vast majority of what is for sale there, but I just love looking at these fine old rifles and daydreaming.

Check them out, other cool stuff besides just firearms too... http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/site-map

Disclaimer: I am not in any way affiliated with Collectors Firearms. I'm just a gun nut who finds their stock fascinating and thought I would share with my fellow gun nuts. :)

History is always interesting, especially that involving weapons.
I've got an 1849 Colt Navy, with original Ivory grips. There are several notches cut in one of the grips. The notches were cut long ago and are almost smooth now. I'd love to know the history of this particular gun, especially the significance, if any, of the notches.
A friend of mine found it while demolishing an old house in Abilene Ks. It was wrapped in a piece of cloth and had been stuck under a board in the floor. I don't know if someone was bored and decided to try checkering the grip and didn't get far, or the notches are of a more nefarious background. It took a fair amount of time with Breakfree and a piece of wool, to get the rust off of it. It still functions and has one of the best single actions triggers I've ever encountered.

Very cool find!!

Several years ago, my brother in law's dad was metal detecting near an old stone foundation in the woods. He found the remains of an old side x side shotgun. The wood had years ago rotted away leaving only the receiver and barrels intact but badly rusted up. It has exposed hammers and get this, one hammer was down, the other cocked. They are rusted tight and do not move.

Same brother in law owns an old Springfield trap door action 45-70 carbine that the serial number confirms was issued to General Custer's troops.

I have an old Steyr m95 8x56r carbine that has a few very old notches of some kind cut into the stock..

As I said above, if only they could talk.

I don't collect old guns, but I really like old designs and old cartridges. My favorite time period would be from around 1890-1935, so many good guns and cartridges came about in that time. Guns I have designed in this time period include the Marlin 1894, Marlin 336 (an update of the model 1893), Marlin 1895, Winchester 94, S&W Hand Ejector model 10, Browning Auto-5 and Hi-Power. Cartridges I like include the .45-70 (1873), .30-30 WCF (1895), .38 Special (1899), 9mm Parabellum (1902), .380 Auto (1908), and .257 Roberts (1926).

I was going to try the Cowboy shoots here in Ky. Bought a Ruger 45 colt hand gun and 45 colt Henry. Two years later never shot the guns, have to many. Traded the Henry for the pool table. Duy! I was outnumbered males to females. DSCF2057.JPG Anyone know of a source for parts for this old Stanley side by side 16 ga? If not it might get transformed into a lamp.DSCF2059.JPG Old flat primer flask and old shotgun crimper I think.DSCF2055.JPG This old Iver Johnson Enforcer 30 cal needs to go to your house Ferguson. I have 3 brother in laws picking up old mowers at scrap yards all over Ky after siding jobs. I need a car port for room to clean my garage out.

You mean like, Remington the company as a whole? They've been changing owners, going through bankruptcy, reorganizing and relaunching periodically since like 1871. It's nothing new. Heck, you can count on Colt going bankrupt every couple of decades as sure as the appearance of Cicadas!

I just follow what I read in NRA. I believe in lawyers creating jobs. I can always count on you to keep up with details.

Try Numrich arms.
They have a good inventory of parts for out of production guns.

You are too kind, thanks. I love the NRA and am a life member, but remember they publish what they publish because it serves their needs, like everybody else on planet Earth.

My grandfather passed away back in the 80's and everyone rushed home to Tennessee.
At the time my aunt Jean and uncle Robert had a small restaurant in town.

The morning of the funeral the entire family meet for breakfast...
After an hour or so an elderly gentleman came walking in with 2 Very old long guns.
One was a double barrel shotgun, the other a bolt action long gun.
Being in my 20's I decided to take a look. The gentleman was there trying to sell them...

After looking at both (and liking the bolt action) I rejoined my family. Uncle Robert (sitting next to me) asked what was going on. I told him and I mentioned how nice the bolt action was.
A few moments later uncle Robert went over to talk to the gentleman. Seemed he knew him. Not surprising seeing just about Everyone knew uncle Robert.

About 10 minutes later uncle Robert came back to the table and handed me the bolt action. I told him I could not afford that. He told me "No never mind.... I know the man, he owed me money and I offered him some cash and wiped the dept. I am giving this to you"
You could have knocked me over with a whisper!

Back home I discovered it is a Vetterli 1886-87, 41 caliber. All the numbers match, and it is a dual rim fire. Looking close I discover both firing pins were broken.

Over the next 20 plus years I looked for a gun smith I felt would be able to work on this, inspect it for possible firing, and make the new firing pins.

A few years ago my uncle John calls me and tells me to bring the rifle to TN in June. He has a lead on an older gun smith with a reputation for knowing very old guns.
I delivered the gun and all the documentation for it that June and John handled it from there...

The next year in March I get a call. The 1867 is done. WTF?? "John! what is this going to cost me!"
"Well.... The inspection went real well. The gun is in great shape. Cost was $20. The bad news is that Sam (the gunsmith) had to order the metal to Hand make the firing pin/s (turns out to be one single piece of metal). After getting the metal and Hand Filing it fit, he said its good to go"

"Yea, well, How F'en Much??"
"oh.... $50 LOLOL"

Turns out the rifle was the oldest gun Sam had ever worked on.
Next, I need ammo... Good F'en luck!!
In April I find I collector selling off some very old ammo. Turns out it had all been stored in a safe for about 80 years. I buy the one and only Whole box of 20. Don't ask how much... But I had to have it!

In June I get the rifle back... Of course we have to Test Fire this thing....
The family, friends, neighbors, all step out into the front yard. We put a 4x4x4 chunk of wood about 20 years away and boom..... What? This is quiet!! Well at the length it is and as heavy as it is, behind the gun its like shooting a 22!!

Nice hole thru the 4x4x4... Closer inspection, the entire Rear half is Gone!
Another 4x4x4 and boom... the 4x4x4 explodes!
Over the rest of the vacation that year we shoot off all but 3 of those rounds...

Now I am on the lookout for Another Bolt to be converted to Center Fire...Yes I have the documentation on how to do it But I want to leave the matching number bolt stock....

Very cool! Somebody out there was making runs of new .41 Swiss ammo awhile back, I'm thinking it was Navy Arms.

That is cool. Is it WWI military? My problem is finding a foundry. They say there are no foundries in the US anymore, to make a new hammer for my Stanley. That is a cool story also.
