Hi folks

I am interested to hear from some of the folks on here building race saws on their findings or opinions on outright cut speed potential of a 288, 064 and 066.

I have built a couple 066’s that are very quick, the one running the 288 piston is proving hard to beat in its local racing circuit.
My 064 it almost as fast, I think it may now be on par after a bit more work to it recently.

Now I am soonnto take ownership of a Husky 288xp hightop, 2000 model.

What are people’s thoughts on the 288’s potential to eat the 64/66’s up or am I wasting my time?

064 has 52mm bore and 40mm stroke
066 has 54mm bore and 40mm stroke
288 has 54mm bore and 38mm stroke

I don’t care about weight, looks, AV, filtration, sound etc.
Just outright power potential is ported right.

Cheers

I have seen some ridiculous fast 181s that will run a great 5 cube heat.
On any given day a guy with his saw and chain can win if the planets align in his favor.
I think the best 064 i have ever run/owned will take the best 288 i have ever run/owned 9 times out of 10.
Everything matters and it all adds up, the more time you can spend tuning your racing rig to the way you cut and the wood you will be cutting the better the results.

The things guys do to saws in the name of 1/100th of a second are insane.
Modifications that require more one off work than you can imagine in the "hopes" that it makes that saw faster and all the testing and development is secret because if it works you don't want other guys to have that same advantage :)
Endless testing with dozens of different chains and 5-6 sprockets and a few different bar profiles to find what works best with a certain power head. Different carburetors and carburetor mods and fuels.

We all must be nuts :)
