I know the stihl Ultra isn’t the best oil by any means but we have a br600 blower and it’s consumed gallons of gas mixed with it at 50:1 still runs like a champ. And my buddy uses it in his tree service saws at 50:1 and his saws are relatively clean inside and have a quite a few hours on them. So must be at least adequate mixed at 50:1. Jasco fb rated so not great kind of a middle of the road. I still like the alco no smoke two stroke jasco fd rated oil been working great in my killing saws.

Nothing wrong with an FB or API Tc rated oil in a chainsaw. Stihl ultra was only put in Stihl shops for one reason which was their 4mix engines. Its actually a fairly high quality synthetic oil which is why it don't work so well in chainsaws. Unlike a mineral oil that aids combustion high quality synthetics resist combustion. Like HR1 Belray which is also a high quality ester synthetic it don't burn well is a chainsaw application. Don't forget Stihl happily specified mineral oil for many decades until the 4mix fiasco. Those in tune with their saws notice a big difference between oil types and how they perform. My advice is to judge and oil not by its JASO rating but how it performs in ya saw.

Stihl HD super is a very good oil for chainsaws. I can't tell the difference in performance between that and red armor. Red armor isn't the only good oil out there, but to me it is among those with more of a pleasant odor when burned... and...@Onan18 has a very interesting story to tell about a head to head meltdown test with three brands, with red armor clearly coming out on top. I would really enjoy seeing a test like that with more brands of oil used.
Which oil smells the best? Echo gets my vote for worst.

Yamalube 2R for the mfing win !!!!!!

I use Honda HP2 it is blue like oil should be, seems very similar to the yamalube to me, leaves a very nice redidue on the piston and cylinder, I have been running 40:1, but next jug will be 32:1. And it smells delightful as well.

Ill go farther and say H1R sucks at more than 45-1 in a chainsaw. Wet muffler. 48-1 works well in summer heat. Leaves no carbon behind. No detectable engine wear. Pricey oil.
Wally world regular blue oil does OK 40-1.
Wally world synthetic air cooled engine oil is getting run this year. So far no problems.

VP and Red Armor at 40:1 here. No problem with either but I don’t take my mufflers off and look or tear down and look either just going by others and running them like crazy

I dont take mufflers off to look. Oil was coming out the OEM 066 dual port muffler. It was not tuned fat. Winter time.

"Once re-tuned"

Nuff said, though imop red armor is better....It will leave a red coating in plastic tanks.

I guess that’s why my cs-590 tank is orange so we wouldn’t notice? Never really noticed in my stihl fs90 or my echo backpack blower either. Ran like 5 gallons though and have been using VP ever since. Will go back to red armor though when the VP runs out. Haven’t seen the big bottles at my Walmart yet so not sure if they will be available this year or not.

My 2188 wouldn't idle with Stihl Ultra at 40:1 or 32:1. I switched to Ipone snow racing 2T, and it purs like a kitten now. And, it smells good.

So does that mean that red sled oil is good oil?

If you let it sit with the red armor it'll coat them. But echo was smart. haha
