Hi Everyone,

Need some advice for a brushcutter blade. I have a Honda UMK435 brushcutter that I bought earlier this year and absolutely love. Was unsure about 4 stroke but I couldn't have been more wrong and puts my older 2 strokes to shame! The problem is getting decent blades. The only blades I seem to be able to find are the pressed steel ones which are okay for light brush but when you have 1"-2" trees in between the teeth just aren't man enough for the job. Does anyone know of some carbide tooth (circular saw) blades that are 25.4x200? All the ones I can find are 210mm which would require modifying the guard.

Thanks!

You can buy them from Dewalt. Over here there are conversion rings for axle diameter included with the blades.

Ah I never thought about just buying a 30mm to 25.4mm adapter (Doh!) I am tempted to try one of the stihl chisel tooth blades and seeing what they are like as you can sharpen them with a chainsaw file.
Trouble is there's usually hidden stones in with the brush or little bits of metal and I have had a carbide tooth come off a circular saw before and hit me like a .22 air rifle. I've also noticed that brushcutter blades are 10,000rpm and most saw blades are 6,300. The specs on the Honda say that the RPM with a blade on max out at 9,300 so it's a little risky, don't fancy clipping a rock and having a blade shatter into my shin. Then again if you guys are running them without issue then they can't be that bad.

I just looked at slug busters! They are pricey in the UK! £54 ($75) after VAT!!

Had a little fun with the brushcutter blade on its last legs today. It doesn't do too bad even though it burns through trees instead of cutting them! DSC_0027.JPG

In the Oregon catalog you can find special blades for brushcutters. Not cheap...

Maybe I will try a chisel tooth blade and then give a circular saw blade a go if the chisel blade can't handle it. I'll have to shop about and find a circular saw blade with the correct RPM rating. Seems like the larger the blade gets the lower RPM rating it has.

Go with a smaller blade. You are gonna bend anything you put on it.If you bend a smaller blade it's no where near as noticable.I like the finer tooth blades like a ripping blade. They don't bite as hard or jerk you around.Just my 2 cents

I would struggle with anything smaller than a 200mm I think. I already get annoyed when the head gets stopped by bits of brush and I can't get underneath to get to the main stalk to cut it down. I will give the chisel tooth one a go and then see what it's like from there. When that goes wrong I will look at getting a blade and just use a spacer if necessary

I hear you man.I have been swinging mine for the last 3 days on and off.Im way behind on the brush growing around my house.Been on the road for 5 years.Got a little time at home now and I'm trying to get caught back up.I bought this blue max off of Amazon 2 years ago.Im usually a couple seasons and buy another brush cutter kind of feller.Im super impressed with it.It was under 100 dollars.

Yea it's crazy how fast things grow when your back is turned. I've been using mine to cut a hedge down that had grown to be 13 feet deep! I don't blame you for buying a new one every few years! They usually get temperamental after a year or two which is why I've changed to 4 stroke. The engine is crazy smooth and much more torque! Plus when I have a heavy blade on it pops a little on overrun when you come off throttle and that puts a smile on my face!
