You guys opened a big can of worms... I found a place that sells 2 stroke Detroits... now just to see how much would be needed to acquire one... thinking a 4-71T would be good? Slap a bigger turbo and some injectors on it, big 4.5 or 5" exhaust...

Like I need to look at more stuff to buy... don't have money for most of it, lol...

Fun to dream, sometimes.

There is a truck I've been looking at... 6x6, 700 hp diesel, and yes, it is fully refurbished. And it's currently sitting in overseas in Europe. I'd give my left testicle for that truck. Could crush a 1 ton pickup... tires are about 4-5 feet tall.

Oh, and chinese 200t's are junk. Buy a lone wolf 200t. Costs more, but it is worth it, I'm sure.

I've also got a 96 Ranger. 3.0l v6, five speed manual, 4x4. Gets the same mileage as the 97 Suburban, 18 mpg. 189,000 miles.

That one is leaving soon after the doors are fixed on the Burb.

Back to 200t's now? Or did we beat this thread into submission and take over with truck talk?

What's with all these modern vehicles being discussed? Makes me feel like I've been left behind with my 1963 Falcon, 1966 Mustang and 1978 F250 Supercab 4x4.
Building up an engine for the truck this week. 351M/400.

Fred,
bout the only comparison between an 066 and a 200t commercial use wise is that they are both "Stihls"
a 200t is constantly, daily, all day long asked to do more then its designed to. NO other saw gets whomped on like a 200t in a bucket or in a saddle. its a 14" chain cutting 20" branches all day long getting pinched and pulled by a guy who would much rather be safe on the ground running that cheap Chinese 066 . unless you are stumping all day long the reliability of a 066 is less critical then a 200t.
you'll likely not get to use that 066 unless the 200t does its job first.

200t HAS to be right or the kids don't eat tonight.

but for an average firewood guy who occasionally uses a tophandle in the yard....NP

I hear what you're saying, we usually have a 200t up the tree getting wrestled by the climber, but with a 12" bar. While the 200t does a HUGE amount of work, we also have a 60-70cc saw up the tree daily & a 660 wearing a 24" bar up the tree if it's big enough (and most large eucalypts are definitely big enough).

All of those saws get absolutely hammered! I wouldn't consider sending any Chinese saw up in the tree. And our 660 has to then do the stumping, so no Chinese stuff on the ground for us either.

Those are valid points, and I agree.

But the Chinese saws come as kits, the quality is less than OEM in some/many cases with the pieces, you have to tinker with them, see what works, what holds up, swap out parts, sometimes to an OEM part. They can be a work in progress, and at the end of the day people are happy IF they just work, and are surprised when they work well.

Given all that, they aren’t really a good fit for a business that DEPENDS on the saw to make money. They are a possible fit for a guy who likes to collect saws, or might want to occasionally use something in that weight class but not have to drop /tie up big money for what will likely be on a shelf much of its life. They might work for a homeowner, or for the hobbyists / weekend warriors.

These comparisons of a $1200 Stihl 066 to a $400 Chinese 066 in terms of quality, or a $900 Stihl ms200t to a $$?? Chinese 200t, in terms of durability are missing the whole point of a Chinese kit chainsaw.

I am well aware of the quality of the Chinese parts and stuff. I can tell you they cant make much stuff right and it it is low quality. Some plastic is acceptable stay away from engine parts.

Figured I'd chime in with a "commercial" for our sponsor...HL Supply...
I saw that they had a sale on 200t handles last week so I knew I had enough guts (linkage parts) to put one together and hit the buy button hoping the $25 wouldn't be a waste.
If you have all the internals and have a busted handle then it works. Everything swapped over flawlessly. Took about 40 minutes as it was late and I was tired. Then only thing missing is the position indications that tell you "choke-fast idle-run-off".
As steve said...
Some plastics work..
