Two runners are possible but the owner wants one made of the two.
660 cylinder would clean up easy and just need a piston. Owner wants Red light top on 660 to make a running saw. Not sure what he will do with left overs.

Personally I would fix the case on the Red Light and put a piston in the 660 and the other parts needed for it and have two saws but that’s me.

Tell him the RL cylinder won't fit on the new 660 case. :D

The 660 of the two saws is actually a short case. Both cases are the same.

I asked poleman to send me a pic that had a better angle view than the originals he started this thread with.

They never made a short case 660

The saw in the picture is definitely a short case, I agree 100%, however I don’t believe its an original case 660

I’d check the flywheel and crank

Someone probably put it together with 066/660 parts mixxed together

They made short case metal flywheel small crank and short case poly flywheel large or 660 crank. I don't think they where ever 660 with the short case thinking they were only 066

The flat-top poly flywheel 066 was a short-case poly flywheel saw. They came out in 1996 in North America. For me, that's one of the best 066/660 saws. The cylinder had good port timing-not as good as the "Red Light" saws but almost.

That lasted until Stihl switched over to the "Optimized" cylinder and piston (I think around 1998). The "Optimized" top ends were introduced for all the pro model saws and I believe were manufactured by Stihl.

1999 is when they switched over to the larger crankcase. The service bulletin for that is attached.

Hey gents... question here about the 066 and 660 differences.
Have an 066 Red light that runs, clean cylinder but the case is broke by the front AV mount. Will a newer 660 case work to repair by swapping over??
The 660 has a bad piston, but it’s not bad and I thing the cylinder is probably good. It’s missing some carb housing parts but repairable.
My question will the 066 Red light top work on the 660. Possible build one saw out of one?? Seem I’ve read there are different chassis’s and such and not sure of interchangeability.

Red light tank that’s broken

Not my saws and the owner would like them both fixed......cheap!![emoji53]
Just weighing options....

Thanks!!!!

I have a good flywheel side case from a short case, aluminum flywheel saw.

My saw had a bad clutch side case and I swapped out the whole case.
