I suppose it would depend on the condition of the brush cutter, the value you put on it, and how much use both the saw and the attachment will actually see. As I mentioned though, that looks like a very nice 08-S right there! But also bear in mind that the 08-S uses the same problematic SEM ignition as the 045 and the 056. I don't believe there is a Bosch version for that saw like there is for the 1115 series if you were of a mind to convert it in the event the SEM should fail. That stated, the TS350 chop saw version of the 08-S also uses the SEM and is often an overlooked source if you would ever happen to need one.

But, I was led to believe the chop saw ignition is rev limited. [emoji848]

Iffin it weren’t I have an 056 that would benefit greatly.[emoji6]

Actually have 3 running 08’s and a ts 350 plus spare parts. Was thinking more that the brush cutter would be neat. Is the sem in the 08 exactly like the 045/056?

..which brings up a question .In the case of say a unit that has a trigger device would it be that device that limits the speed ?Case in point Partner p100 and Partner K1200 chop saw .I would think the actual coil wouldn't do it because a coil is a coil and weather it had a trigger or a set of points it should act the same .

I've never heard that. That said, there are two part numbers for the SEM module -- 1108-400-0800 and 1108-400-0810 with the 0800 being the most common and the one listed in MediaCAT for the 08-S, TS350, TS360, 056...

Is the sem in the 08 exactly like the 045/056?
The 056, yes. Turns out the 045 uses a different variation.

I don't think a trigger unit would limit spark without something else telling it to not 'trigger'. It's my general understanding that
limiting is derived by interruption of the spark relative to RPM by a sensing circuit in the coil itself. I suppose it could be applied to an external trigger device depending on how and where the trigger was tied into the overall circuit.

I may be mistaken but as I remember a solid state state trigger responds to the rise time of the sine wave .When it reaches max it fires the coil .I think they use an SCR with a "crow bar"circuit which limits the RPM's .I am assuming it responds to the voltage which increases as RPMs increase .I'll have to look it up to be sure .

I would say small chunk of something rattled around inside weather it’s came in through plug hole or small chunk broke off inside engine and rattled around. Ring location pin off piston? Maybe dirt though plug hole that wasn’t cleaned? Hope you got a good deal on the “044” be nice to get an 066 for price of an 044.

What do you guys think about this 066 piston? Was an eBay “044” I purchased....

Pulls 175 psi, but curious as to what may have caused damage like this. No marks on the rings, or on the piston above the lower ring. Bottom of piston is clean too...

Im thinking that saw has a lot of hours, looks pretty dirty.

Maybe a small piece of crusty sooty carbon broke off the top of the piston or the exhaust port and got ingested?

Pop the rings off and sand away the scuffs,it should be okay .It looks like some transfer might be pulled over the top ring .I've used them much worse than that and never had a problem .

Today after work, it was finally above freezing and not pitch black so I was able to give the 024 some exercise. The little saw started up and right away I could tell it was too lean. Took quite a bit of opening the screws, probably 1/2 turn on the low and 3/4 on the high on top of opening them the last time I tried it. I would say it's now around 2-1/4 turns out on the low and 2-3/4 turns on the high but the saw now runs and cuts quite well. This is with the aftermarket carb from Definitive Dave. I think I filed the rakers too much, the chain was awfully grabby on some 12" Elm logs. It's a work in progress, and well worth the swap of a running late model Crapsman.

Wow. Seems like a lot of adjustment on the carb. Shouldn't be that much from the 1 and 1 presets. Maybe 1/4 or 1/2 turn out either way.
I have a China carb from DDave, and it was pretty close to the 1 and 1 Walbro carb.
Interesting.

I'm amazed at how much more fuel efficient today's saws are. My Echoes, all made in the 2000's, absolutely do not like to run rich. If I was feeding my CS-400 the amount of fuel that the 024 likes it would smoke and chug like a locomotive, if not flood out. Same for my Dolmar 5105. The optimal point was not much more open than factory spec, and dumping more fuel in there just produces more smoke and nothing else.

Anyone remove clutch and flywheel without cylinder installed? How did you do it? Wood blocks in the case?
