Been wanting to try this ever since ChainsawJim did it to a 064. The jug is a 066 with the exhaust opened up and mounted with no gasket. When I mounted the poly wheel which is from a 046,I used the key.But it would rip the rope out of your hand real mean like.So I pulled the key and advanced it some.
The recoil is from an 064 and I am using the 1128 drum and pawls.Which is a weak point, but it's working. I also dropped pawl spring down so it would line up. It was 3 below, but I really wanted to try it. Was impressed for sure.066.jpg 066 1.jpg 066 2.jpg 066 3.jpg Now ,we'll have to see if I can leave it be.

Do you need to modify the flywheel at all? Also why not just use the 1201 064 flywheel or the dual key 066 flywheel? Availability? What ignition module did you run the universal 0000 400 1300 or the 1122 400 1314.

The flywheel usually needs to be shaved on the backside to clear the cylinder bulge, at least mine did.

Yes,like Basher said. Trimmed the back side. Why? because I wanted to see how it felt response wise. The coil,I'm not sure. There are no numbers, but it was in with all my 044 stuff and it fit.

I am also using a large mount bar that came with an 084.Have three bars with this mount and no other way to use them. Had some 084 studs that I resized to fit the case. Then made the cover fit. Had some new 404 chain which is what the bars are,so I figured why not.

With the poly flywheel they will be snappier and I didn`t find the lighter wheel to affect low end grunt but my bars are 32" and under, not sure what a longer bar buried would be like.

And the oil holes line up? The size of the tail is totally dissimilar.

Did you have to move the adjuster hole?
No,but the bar and chain are tight going on. Did that knowing I wasn't going to get the full amount of the adjusting screw.

Just for clarification the trimming that needs to be done is on the transfer bulge, just so the flywheel has clearance from the cylinder. If i remember right you have to do some of the same on 440/460 hybrids but maybe I am mistaken. Do you think 1/3 of the key is enough to retard the timing enough. Or does it need to be more than the whole key?

What did you have to do on the pawl spring? Did you just remove the Washer between the rope rotor and the pawl spring?

Whats. Benefit and reason for changing alluminum small hole flywheel to the 046 poly flywheel? Id assume the poly flywheel would take the standard oooo 400 1300 coil the alluminum dual key small crank and poly. 066 large crank flywheel take the 1122 400 1300 coil i beieve

The 1128 rope rotor gets drilled to fit the pin on the 064 recoil. The pin sits too high,so I cut the slot lower down and small enough to fit the 1128 spring.
The fly wheel was moved more than a keys width.

I did it for a combination of reasons. One was to keep the saw as light weight and slim as possible, another was for faster spool up with the 046 weighing in at 12.1oz vs the 064 weighing 17.4oz, the motor still has to turn the flywheel, so lightening that load lets the chain inertia maintain better.
Keep in mind that all my reasoning is purely for the idea of race builds.

Get another 1128 spool and mill the 064 axle/pin down to size. It's easy if you chuck it up in a drill and hold it against a large flat file to hand machine it. It takes about 5 minutes.
My drilled out 1128 spool ended up cracking where it was drilled out thinner.
