So, you and I both are wondering what weight oil did they put in this thing?
Then you realize what weight should I put in it with this frigid weather here to stay?

I say 10 weight jack oil. If you have moister problems then use low temp snow plow oil. It has antifreeze and absorbs water.

My splitter is a DR 6ton. Most 5-6 ton are about the same.
What say ye'

I changed the oil that came in mine with ATF. Ram would barely move when it got to -20C

+1 on the ATF! I have this "7 ton" electric splitter. Ran it yestersay at 5 degrees, a little slow at the beginning but still split and was fine after it warmed up.

My home built splitter with a 11 HP and 5" cylinder has 8-10 gallons of Dexron II ATF in the tank .Never had a problem hot or cold .
I had a little electric with a 3.5" cylinder .knife edge cutter .It only held a little over a quart of excess fluid and I used Dexron on it also .It was amazing how such a tiny little thing could split 3 feet diameter oak rounds .Not real fast but it certainly beat swinging an axe .Electric,it always started .
