Jack I have had great success with paypal. Recently I sent all my front
suspension parts for my 1970 Torino project to a restoration shop in AZ.
When all the parts came back to me one part was missing. I paid him
through paypal. When I contacted the shop they told me to find another
part and they might restore it for nothing. This part is 1970 specific and
hard to find for a concourse restoration. After a week I filed a claim with
paypal. After 2 months of explaining what had happened and listening to
both sides they gave me a full refund for all the work even though I was
missing only one part out of the 14 pieces I sent the shop.

And you were ok with someone doing getting paid 0 for all the work they did? In the end you were still missing the part.

That's the problem with paypal, they totally screw the seller. Been there many times, so easy for sellers to get scammed. No matter what paypal decides, if you use a credit card, your still covered, they will reverse the charges.

If the seller wont make it right then paypal should step in as they did for lee. I, for one, would be pissed if i sent stuff off to be restored, a piece came up missing and their response was “ well get another one and we may restore it for free”.

The cost of the part missing, yes, but for all the work done? Really? If you buy a chainsaw off saw one and saw the bar/chain came with it and poked through and fell out of the box... you think paypal should refund you 100% when you still get the saw less bar/chain? Put the show on the other foot and see if you agree. I don't care how rare the part is, it's total bs. I restore 60/70s cars and have been for 20 plus years, it happens, parts get lost, but unless it's 100% no replaceable then, no way this is right.

Here's the flipside....if you were the shop owner, wouldn't you go out of your way to find a replacement for the part that became lost? It shows some serious malaise on the part of the shop @Lee H dealt with. Should they have to refund all monies paid to them? Who can say? But what did they do to avoid the escalation?

I can agree with both parties to a point. As a shipper in todays very fast world they need to make sure
and item is packed well to not only make the trip but to with stand the brutal handling from the shipper.
Shippers don't give a damn whats in the package. There goal is to get it from point A to point B.
I recently had a situation where I sent all the front suspension parts to my 1970 Torino to a guy in AZ.
When he shipped the parts back all restored all arrived but one lower control arm. Fortunately I paid him
with paypal. I contacted him and he said if I find a control arm he Might restore it for free. Now I have
to find a control arm and he Might restore it. Ya Ok. I filed a dispute with paypal and after a 2 month
litigation I won and got all my 2310.00 bucks back. Now the restorer contacts me but never while the
dispute is going on. Says now he has 7 lower control arms which are specific to a 1970 model year. He
restored one and I then paid him his money. If he had shipped my parts back in a suitable box that would
make the trip across the country all this could have been avoided.

Sounds like this had a great ending, Lee still wanted to pay the man he just needed leverage to have his rare part that was lost handled correctly by the restorer. Fascinating after how not having any of his money the guys tune changed and he was able to make it right! Good job.

Thank god he took paypal. He now doesn't anymore. So what does
that say about the restorer now.

Well, It's completely in pieces with the body at the body shop. Almost ready for
primer then paint and hopefully it will be home late spring or early summer
then the fun begins hand assembling the entire car.

It’s only took a couple hours to assemble it originally right? [emoji16]

There are a few guys that never post.......but are sound to deal with. I know......that's sort of odd. If you have doubts about someone, just ask around. If no one here knows them......you should walk away.
If a guy has zero posts......you should think twice about sending him money. We have been having an influx of scammers.....

I have a positive online review on eBay that runs over 19yrs+ but new here, does that make me a bad person?

A bad person? I have no idea. I don't know you at all. Do you know me? Will you vouch for my honesty to someone that is planning to send me 1500.00 for a saw I have?

Your best bet would be to make some posts......get to know some folks here. Or.....you could make more posts like the one you just made and hope for the best.

Cool?
