MS260, all original except has newer aftermarket covers, 160psi compression, good running saw, not the prettiest, but does the job, $195 plus shipping

Just out of curiosity which one is more desirable and why? I just picked up a nice 50cc version. It kind of surprised me how well it runs with the muffler opened up a little.

Either are desirable. The Doc can spiff-em up to make excellent runners.
They can be made to run very well.

The ones I've ran are older 026 and early 260 with 44mm can't comment on 44.7 but I'm sure they are great saws too. These saws will take a beating and always start and run. Very dependable

I must have missed a post somehow... this is the 44.7mm version, it's 50cc. Can't say I noticed much of a difference, having had 44mm and 44.7. Then again only used them for trimming small branches off trees which take little effort.

Hmmm.......I thought all MS260's were 44.7mm. Mine is a first year MS260. Probably a 44mm then. I've never had it apart to measure it! Guess it's time to pull the muffler and find out!

A pic of the top of the jug with the top cover off will suffice to tell which size it is.

Decomp jugs came in 44.7 and 44mm variants. Most are, in fact, 44mm.

Many ways to tell without a caliper which one u have.

A saw with a 50cc sticker is generally 44.7 IF the jug hasn’t been swapped.

The top center boss on the casting, the upright area where it’s usually stamped “A” or “B”, can we see a pic?

On 44mm jugs, that’s machined flat and square on top. On 44.7mm jugs, the boss is as cast with rounded edges.

You are spot on sir. I have worked on more 260's than there are days in the year. I can also tell you that a 44mm MS260 is also a very desirable saw (in my book).
I have seen them in the variations which the Doc has described.

I had a lot of them and probably just as many 44mm as 44.7.

Did they make 44.7 026 pros? Not sure what the bore is on those, but know they have the decomp valve... never had one.

Not argueing here as doc has seen more 026s then i and he is the 026 guru.. I learned something cuz to this day i have never seen a 44mm cylinder with a decomp valve.but i allways mic. Them to be sure what they are. Also still believer that the 44mm is the better of the 2 numbers wise.

No argument here. None at all.

We are all here to learn, and y0u made me look to find out I was wrong about something.

I’m gonna start a thread.
