I think I can buy an 084 relatively cheap. Needs front cover for muffler for sure and he said the heat cooked the gasket on the oil tank and made it leak. Are they worth messing with? I know the muffler is no longer available already. I have also heard an 088 is more powerful. What's everyone's thoughts?

Chewp enough they're worth it. Front covers can be had on ebay or a whole muffler can be purchased from me if I get my lazy ass in gear and build more.

I saw the cover on eBay, had him take pics of the piston and it's slightly scratched. I'm sure it's fine but since the muffler burned the gasket sealing the tank top and it leaks I'll need to split it. I'll be putting in new rings and bearings and seals. We agreed on 400 which I think is cheap enough if I decide to buy it.

400 isn't bad if the rest is all good. Gasket, seals, and bearings will run $100. Piston is under $100.

That's what I figured, meteor piston kit is 56$. Gaskets and bearings another 100$. I was thinking I'd be a fool if I split cases and put back together without new bearings.

Only reason I wanted to know what people though about 084's is I plan on using it for milling. I've heard the 088/880 has more power. But I also like the auxiliary oiler on the 084 for milling. So I think I'll get this one if I can and look at an o88/880 at a later date. I know I'll like the tank fill for milling better than my 075 and 090. Don't know if it will keep up with my 090 though.
