do you think the electric is more efficient I don't
While the physics of electric motors compared to internal combustion engines show that electric is a much more efficient conversion of energy, that's not really why. I prefer electric motors because they always start after a long winter, they are quieter, they produce no fumes, they require almost no maintenance and the electricity is delivered to my house.
Literally plug and play.

That was painfully slow. I do agree that an electric splitter would be nice if it would perform as well as a gas splitter but have the advantages you've listed above.

I'm 65, the splitter is not the bottleneck in this operation. And remember, this is a $300, 5-ton unit.

If speed is important, there is no hydraulic faster than the kinetic splitters, which are available with electric motors.

I almost bought an electric Super Split. I'd still love to have one someday, but I decided on this instead:rps20170523_195328_848.jpg

It's quiet too, since the motor is a long ways from the operator and it's quieter than a gas motor anyway. I like the Super split idea a lot, but this will do 32" wood, which a super split will not.

Nice work deets! What do you estimate you have into your splitter? I want to build one similiar to yours. I like the components you used. What's the cycle time? Any drawbacks to your splitter?
