image.jpg Is it a tapered seat? I can't see a keyway. Just pull, right?

It's a dolmar. Predecessor to the 166. I can't see how it would be a tapered fit it because the clutch drum bearing speith doesn't seat against the clutch hub. But the IPL doesn't show a key. I put a bit of heat to it and pulled on it fairly good but it didn't come. So I'm waiting for someone with experience with these to tell me what to do. I appreciate the reply though.

I looked at a CT crank and it is slightly tapered on the clutch seating area with no key (or threads.) So I think you're on the right track with your puller and applying heat. I also looked at some CC cranks on ebay.de and they also show a slight taper on that side with no key or threads.

It is indeed a tapered fit. We had to heat it with a puller in place, plus give the end of the puller a rap with a hammer.

I know it's an old thread, but someone may get benefit from knowing how these come apart.

I asked in 4 different forums and got no answer and can relate to the frustration.

I had my puller on it for a month or two, used lots of heat, gave it many good smacks with a hammer-and it never budged. I think the clutch has spun and welded itself to the crank. It has been sitting in pieces for a year now. Someday I'll get back to it :)

Hope you eventually get the clutch off. We broke regular grade bolts trying to pop it off even. Someone told me to clean both parts and heat the clutch hub before tightening for reassembly, so as not to spin the clutch on the shaft. He said the results were not good if the clutch spun on the shaft. Hopefully your saw did not experience this.

Old thread, spray 7 day's long wd40 between the cranck and clutch. Tighten the puller and heat the clutch. It must come loose with 1 smack with a hammer.

I had a very stubborn clutch on a PS5105, I was surprised that the day after I shot it with PB Blaster it came right off.

Hey Sheldon, hope to see you again in June with that CT up and running.

Hi Mark! I’m planning on being there, but I doubt the CT will. Never could get the clutch off and haven’t tried since. This one is really stuck. Heat cycles for days, puller tension for weeks, wrapping on the puller, and all the miracle penetrants wouldn’t budge it. I have been a bad Chainsaw Club Member for a while now....I haven’t really done much with the saw projects. I have added to the saw project list though :)

I can bring my custom made puller for you to try if you'd like.

Well years later I finally got the clutch off with no damage. The seal on the clutch side is pretty crispy, and it wasn’t from the torch being out to it because all of the wood shavings weren’t burnt. I just wanted to update the thread for future reference.

Hey Sheldon, that clutch must have been very stubborn, took 5 years to get it off...
