I grew up with these saws. We had a few red ones that ran for years. My pap was actually the repair man in those days and never liked the red ones so we moved on to the gray versions... Then, we found shindaiwa and never bought a stihl again. Hallelujah.

Dirko is a bad ass sealer. It really should work. I'm not sure about different types.....I just use the red stuff. It is pricy, but worth it.

I know we dealt with this when I was a boy and pap used Stihl red sealant which I can only assume was dirko. That was over 25 years ago though...lol.

Those red 009 was the first chainsaw I ever bought, I needed a saw to start climbing(4 years ago) with so I found this mint red 009 and fell in love. After a "little" porting and base gasket delete and yes sealing the air leak under the carby..
I pulled it out the other day after not starting for over 6 months with some fresh fuel it kick in two gear on the second pull..

I now work part time at a Stihl shop in my home town and I'm the only one that can stand to work on them. I use vasoline to keep the rolla bearings together on the crank/rod when you get to there.
