This past weekend put quite a bit of time on my Mastermind 562. During this wood cutting expedition encountered several hot start issues as many of you have encountered. I know there's quite a few threads on this topic. The new design incorporates vents to help prevent the heat soak of the carb. Decided to try this modification to the hood to provide better airflow. I based this modification by looking at the inside of the hood and noticing The air flow pattern was traced by Saw dust. I then traced this with a sharpie marker and then cut it out with a Dremel. Then I glued spark arrestor screen on the inside. Have any of you fellas tried something similar for your 562's?
So far I'm getting good results but yet to run long term after this mod. I will report back if there are any problems. I've got some hot weather coming and hope to run this saw-mod though its paces. I will report back what I find, good or bad.
Here's a couple pics:

Couple of pics from the trip: on a side note my mastermind 550xp beat up My buddies sharp echo CS 8000 80cc in 16 inch pine. The look on his face was priceless. I pointed out that my chain was at the end of it's life and was missing a tooth after the race! [emoji23] good times!

here's what i did prior to the new top cover improvement. it helped. i'm with old guy.View attachment 72536

Looks real nice. What did your new cover cost you? also have you had any hot restart issues since installing the new cover?

I'll Probably just run it like it is for a while until I get a new top cover like yourself.

I did it to my 550 which has never given any hot start issues.

Old thread and I didn’t read it all but my 562’s and 555’s when they have a hot start issue I just push the kill switch a couple times and it starts right up. I’ve got in the habit now of pushing the kill switch down 2-3 times before every start. Eliminated the aggravating no start bs

The vented cowling is a kinda band aid solution for a initial design floor....at least they recognise the heat soak issue exists. Now to do the 'right' thing, husky should supply new covers at NO cost to any original owners of older models that have proof of purchase.
