Had a Dolmar 5100 land in my lap today. Not running of course, original b/c, very low hr saw, but doesn't run. Checked compression, came up with 90 psi which seems low to me but 1st Dolmar I've ever been into. Pulled the muffler and noticed very minor streaking on the piston which makes me think it was straight gassed, but he swears it wasn't. What's the compression supposed to run on these saws? $ 50 investment, so I'm not out much if I have to stick a new top end in it. Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have 6-5100's, 1-5105 and a 510. 180+ psi is normal. 1 of mine is 210 w/base gasket. I'd bet lean most came from box lean and dealers didn't adj. carb. First ones were 14,500 max rpm burnt up a bunch of em. Dolmar came out w/bulletin to 13,800. Later changed to limited coil. This would be better posted in Chainsaw for more views. Love this model got some bad reviews because due to carb being adjusted improperly. Be gad to help if you have any issues.

Thanks for the heads up, can't get good picks of piston but looks mildly scored and I believe the rings are stuck but I've seen worse scoring on husky's that ran good yet.

Gut the muffler, save the ears on the flange inside muffler. Grind /cutout everything under stock deflector. I have one to do if I can get around to it will try to get pic for you. Remove foam off top of carb. Cut nipple off the bottom of AF and plug w/sheet metal screw. The new AF's from Dolmar don't have the nipple. Make sure there is a reinforcement ring in the intake boot ring was an upgrade along w/AF. Cyl. might clean up then all you would need is a piston. Several places to get AM pistons LilRedBarn, Chainsawr. OEM https://store.chainsawr.com/products/dolmar-5105-45mm-chainsaw-piston-assembly-181-132-063-new-d36 I just bought 2 of these VEC mfgr IIRC https://store.chainsawr.com/collect...45mm-chainsaw-piston-assembly-181-132-063-new. More later gotta "sleep".
