I like the Walthers that I've shot, but every one I've ever shot had the European mag release. I'm just not used to manipulating that style.

I actually like it better being ambidextrous, but yes, it does take some getting used to.

Anyone have an automatic feed electric clay target thrower or recommend where to start looking. Not interested in hand thrower or spring mechanical anymore. I believe a few hundred dollar investment would pay off in shells and pleasure by kills in the long run.

I can see that. I like doing a fair amount of fighting while wounded training. Manipulating the the mag release can be tricky. But when doing a mag change the gun is in between the knees so when bringing the gun down it is doable.

I'll have to look at mine to see what brand it is as it's either a Champion or something like a Whirly Bird? Either way it's a single stack auto feed and was about $200 IIRC. It will do doubles (handloading the 2nd) but not the greatest. It will go between 30-60yds depending on the trajectory angle. The foot switch is very nice. Eventually I'll buy a nice used trap thrower with the wobble feature as you know where it's coming from, but no idea where it's going to go for every shot. Makes it a bit more challenging. Since it's purchase (given the range in my backyard) shotshells and clays have a short lifespan around here.

I have this one. Rather, a friend bought it and donated it to the "range" as we like all forms of shooting, but find shotgun uniquely engaging and the polar opposite of precision marksmanship... Plus it's fun to get 4-10 people and start playing knockout...
1 thing of note however: The terminal power leads are incredibly short. We lengthened them in order to move the battery away from the machine a safer distance and to open up the option of simply driving a vehicle near, popping the hood and clipping on that way relieving us of having to ensure that we had a spare charged battery available for usage. We also lengthened the foot switch cord (a lot) in order to move a about 40 yds in back of the thrower, to make 80 yard shots possible. It's a PITA, but they can be made at 80 yds w/reasonable frequency with practice.

If you guys need a good fixed blade these condor knive from el salvador are tough 35.00 to 45.00 nice thick blade great steel I've had this over five years and still looks new does have a big grip i like that though.

I'm not a bird hunter at all, I've never done it. But aren't the dogs supposed to go after the downed birds?

If he shows an interest in clays this spring, dove and duck next fall, I'll consider sinking $ into a retriever.

If you're looking for inexpensive, look at Champion or Do All.
If you want a machine to last a lifetime, look at Promatic or Lincoln.
We use the Promatic Ranger traps at the Sporting clays club I shoot at. They're bulletproof, but not cheap. I have a pair of Lincoln manual traps I've had for 20 years. They're top notch and completely silent in operation.
