I have enough lowers, uppers, barrels, BCGs and parts kits to build 6 more. Just missing the personalized touches such as gas blocks/sights/furniture. I plan on building one with each child and maybe a deer rifle using the 350 legend. I’m trying the 350 legend in a Ruger American now.

I'm probably going to get the 16" upper with mid-length gas system for it. I'm watching their daily deals for it to show up with free shipping. The carbine will be a lightweight woods walking gun that I won't mind getting scratched, whereas the M16 copy is a little too heavy and nice looking for that purpose. Also, I found a USA made carbon fiber carry handle with sights for only $17.45 on Gunbroker which I'm going to order. I'm not expecting it to be national match quality or anything but for less than a $20.00 I think it is worth trying. If it holds zero well enough for coyotes then I'll be happy with it.

Yes, we have one of those Americans in .350 in stock at my side job shop. They seem really sweet for the price and using AR mags is a huge advantage. I'm trying to talk my best friend into buying one in 5.56/.223.

The mags aren’t the exact same. I had to modify a P mag to make it work for a 10 rounder

Yep, I noticed that while ogling one at work. The feed lips appear to be spread a little farther apart for the .350. The mags on the 5.56/.223 are supposed to be regular AR mags. Which makes me wonder, why in the bloody hell do most riflemakers force you to use special and often expensive mags for .223 rifles? Is it really that friggin' difficult to just design a rifle to use the most common mag in the world? Also on the rack we have the regular Ruger American, Savage Axis, and Remington 783. All chambered in .223 and each one using a special mag that only fits that rifle, costs more, and probably isn't as good as even the cheapest poly AR mag.

It isn’t a major modification. You can get the 10 and 20 round mags from CMMG and others. Some 300blk mags work. The front rib has to be removed from a Pmag. Plenty of videos on it. My son bought an American compact in .308. Wish he would have purchased the Predator with AI mags.

I know that most Combloc 7.62x39 ammo has steel bullet jackets, I was curious to know if their .223 has steel jacket bullets also. Stuck a magnet into the pile of slugs I pulled to replace with soft points and it picked up every one of them en masse. So, they do have steel jackets covered by a copper wash. I really like my rifles and would rather not subject the bores to steel jackets too often. This ammo is cheap enough to where it is still cost effective to replace the bullets with domestic non-ferrous slugs, and of course there is the convenience factor of not chasing brass and going through the rest of the reloading process.

Yep, that's how it works.
A while back I bought several lowers, with no uppers to stick on them.
Still have a couple, waiting for uppers.
I saw those at PSA. For $129, I thought about buying a couple more but didn't.
Primary arms has Anderson completes for a decent price at the moment. Can’t remember the exact$ without looking off the top of my head.

Went ahead and ordered the carbon fiber carry handle in my previous post, since I'm gonna try to get a carbine upper when my refund comes in. Of course, that's all up in the air now given that another guns and ammo panic has ensued. If I can't get the actual upper that I want then I'll just sit on it for the time being. Still shooting the commie steel case ammo with Hornady bullets with good results in the M16 copy.

I've been itching to shoot my carbine, shouldn't have waited so long. Palmetto finally got the mid-length M16 style uppers back in stock so I ordered one. Will report on how well it works.

1 in 7. Does that work well with 55 and 62 grain slugs? My rifle is 1 in 9 and does great with them. I really doubt I'll ever use anything heavier.

Should be fine with 55 & 62 grain bullets.
The slower twist barrels don't do well with a bullet heavier than 55gr.
I have an original Colt Hbar with a 12" twist. It shoots 55's fine. 62's, not so much.

Sounds good, thanks. My rifle really likes the 55 grain Hornady soft points and Sierra Game Kings.

Got my upper and slapped it on the lower along with the carry handle rear sight. Took it out for a spin at 50 yards in the back field this afternoon. The carbine fired and functioned 100%, and seems to be well made. Unfortunately it also has a case of the wandering zero. It shoots high and to the right and adjusting the windage and elevation doesnt affect it much. I'm thinking the cheap carry handle sight is the culprit here, so I'm going to try the carry handle from my rifle and see if that helps.

Don't know why I didn't think of this before, I picked up a Ruger rapid deploy folding rear sight at a local shop today. Hopefully I can shoot the carbine again this weekend. If it is still off with this sight(which comes standard on Ruger rifles) then back to PSA it goes.

Ok, some good news. I put the Ruger rear sight on and took the carbine for a spin. Fortunately, the weather cooperated with good light, no rain/snow, and just a bit of wind. This time, the carbine was shooting as good as any of my other rifles with sights, including my .30-30's.

This is how it did at 75 yards. The group in the center looks huge, but is actually three separate groups with different elevation settings. This is as good as I can do with any rifle without a scope so I am happy. The final group was with Fiocchi and tightened up noticeably compared to the rest which were Tula FMJ and substituted Hornady soft points.

Rifle and carbine together. They are accessorized the way I like with M16A2 style pistol grips and Ruger flash hiders. I ordered a Palmetto carry handle rear sight for the carbine, also thinking of putting a different stock on it. The OEM stock likes to catch my beard when I get a good cheek weld!

Gave the carbine some more exercise today. Menu was 55 grain Hornady FMJ over 20 grains IMR 4895 and small pistol magnum primer, about a .222 level load. At 75 yards off shooting sticks, it shoots well if the operator can do his part (not likely!). There is a 4 shot group in the top center target next to the gun, please excuse the ugly groups elsewhere.l0304211354.jpg
