I have a Troy Bilt TB430 my neighbor asked me to look at

It won't start.

First thing I noticed is he was not using the correct fuel mix. He has some of the canned premixed fuel 50:1....uggg and he left the fuel in it for months (grrrrr)

I have spark, and compression (95 psi, don't know what is needed), I squirted starting fluid in the carburetor... nothing nada zip zilch, Yank my arm off

I'm guessing the cylinder / piston was damaged by using the wrong fuel mix

I just worked with someone yesterday on that ended up having a stuck ring as when it freed up the compression went to 150 psi. But to confirm PNC damage or stuck ring remove the muffler.

Anyway 95 psi is too low for a 2 cycle to fire the mix. 50:1 premix fuel is usually okay to use especially since most are made with synthetic oil. Now I have seen to carbon the piston ring to a point it sticks.

Also check plug takes hell of a lot more volts to create spark under compression

Ummm that was I.... What are the odds there'd be 2 in 2 days?
The odds are pretty good at times. Work this industry enough you will see patterns like this. There have been months were a lot of the same problems show up then it might be years before they repeat. I have been a service tech now for over 40 yrs. Some of the things I repair 40 yrs didn't show up again for 15 yrs then all a sudden rash of them show up.
