I too thought it sounded wrong from the start. How cold was it? Maybe too cold to be running 40:1? You know how colder air causes leaner running. Someone had a similar problem with a 590 I did when it got cold, it was trying to idle fast, I tuned that out, then made a few cuts to get it hot, and it leaned way out with a super fast idle. I retuned it, showed the guy how to uperate the carb heat shutter, and I haven't heard of any more problems about it. Maybe try 50:1.

No air leaking behind the muffler?

Just curious, how wide is the exhaust port? It looks super wide.

Is this a strato saw that maybe the strato air valve is getting stuck open a little? No air leaking behind the muffler?

I forgot they split the carb sometimes instead of using a separate valve. I was having a hard time picturing what y'all were saying the first time I read it.

Just walked in the door . Carb completely stock.

When i said "V2" reset, that could mean V3. 30 min on choke with brake on, pull break off, go WOT and after the rpms increase and then go back down let off throttle. Let it go to idle. Then shut saw off, restart, start cutting.

Didn’t take many carb pics. Saw was purchased, used and returned for reasons besides it’s performance or function.

I will send to dealer for testing after I retry the saw.

FWIW, my other MT saws run fine on the mixes I used.
It's definitely got to be something going on in the carb or the crap that's bolted to the carb not a fan of MT yet but I'm sure eventually I'll get smart enough to like them.:beer-toast1:

Please tell me that I'm reading this wrong "30 min on choke" no wonder the screws fall out.

The MS 462 carb does not have a carburetor with an end cover that includes a air valve like it is built on the MS 362. In the carb of the MS 462 is a baffle plate between the choke and throttle shutter that separates the fresh fuel mix and clean air paths from one another.
any chance the Solenoid and or coil from a 661 would swap over for a test run. I could send Al one right quick to eliminate them.

I’d try checking the throttle plate butterfly and make sure it snaps shut perfectly every time and make sure that the throttle return spring is in the right place and not stretched out. Maybe it’s possible to give it another wrap somehow so that it snaps closed with more authority. The butterfly could also be hanging up on the boot and then when you lay the bar in the wood it stretches the boot a little bit and lets the throttle close.
Idk. Just spitballing

Al....did you loosen the throttle plate to do any mods to the shafts? Thinning of the plate, or screw heads?
Does these mods help a lot or is that only a thing for the last 1-2 % of gains?

Gonna pop cover next time it happens, restart and cut. I’ll see if anything is hung up or if manual pressure closing the throttle butterfly changes the racing.

I don`t think this is possible. The control unit (not coil) is adapted to the saw in which it is used. The MS 661 has nearly 20cc more displacement. I really don`t think this is possible or a good idea.

Pretty sure the solenoid isn’t model specific, but the coil is.

I have both coming to test for a 462.

MT problems usually aren’t the MT, it’s generally something else in my limited experience.

The saw was only run for 1 cut stock. The issue here didn’t occur until the saw got warm. There is another video I did of the saw for its first cuts. The issue didn’t occur at all for the first 6 cuts, then it happened. It’s conceivable that the problem was there before I played with the saw.
