I am working on a conversion project and I have a question. I have a Husqvarna 61 white top that needs a P/C. I am going to get parts off a 266 for this saw. I have a line on a Tillotson 234b. I did some research and found it is out of a Husqvarna 268. The 266 saws used a 224a carburetor. I used this chart: https://www.klaus-haeberlin.ch/file...k/tillotson/applicationcrossreferenceList.pdf

What are the differences between these two carburetors? Can I put the 234b out of the 268 in my 61 and have the adjustment screws line up with the holes in the cover?

I used that same carb on a 61 with a 266 cylinder a couple of months back and it worked good. The H and L screws line up.

But the idle screws don't. Twin coil saws like the 61 and 266 all have an idle screw threaded through the top of the crankcase and not attached to the carb. On single coil saws like the 268 the idle screw is part of the carb with an additional adjustment hole in the top cover. The adjustment guides are therefore different as well. 2 channel vs 3 channel.

This is not a huge deal and can be made to work. And it's easier going 268 to 266 like you are doing vs putting a 266 carb on a 268 and not having an idle screw at all. Personally I'd just use the 266 or even the 61 carb where everything lines right up. I recently did this same build myself and stuck with the 266 carb. Don't put much weight into whether the 268 carb might be bigger or not. Honestly, you're not going to notice any performance difference. You're still going to have the 61 filter and holder which is more restrictive than the 266 or 268 set up, but it the only one that will fit under the white top.

I used the large plastic elbow with a two screw filter and it fit under a white top cover.

I thought I had a pic of the one I used. I used the one that's on the left in the pic.

Ya know, I tried that as well. It fit, but I had to force the top cover down a bit and I'm sure it was in contact with the cover and stressed a bit, so I went back to the original 61 filter set up. What I think would work OK, would be to use a Jonsered 630/930 style filter that is flat rather than having the crown like the 266/288 filter. But those filters are hard to come by except for Jonsered guys that might have a coupe stashed away.

It could be that mine fit because, if I'm remembering correctly, the filter I used was a Tecomec brand and it may have sat lower than the OEM.
