Hmmm. I see. For me it's easier to load smaller pieces on my truck. And I'd rather have less to do at my house. Except move it and stack it. Maybe split it too.

Just curious why you don't just cut the tree into lengths while on the woods? Rather than drag it out?
I cut all my wood to 16" lengths. Then just load it and stack it...
I have a sprained MCL at the moment so I'm dragging them to flat ground. I would normally have cut them in place but soft uneven ground isn't a good idea right now.

Went out early and got a load of Wattle, which is actually an acacia and an introduced species from Australia. Regarded as one of the best firewood species available in NZ and it just about splits by itself when it sees a Fiskars!

Pretty View!

A little cutting before the freezing rain starts today.
Might want to be careful with standing directly in back of the leaners, especially during the back cut. It almost looked like it was trying to barber chair, right before it fell.

I spent the last couple days bucking, splitting and stacking myself. Mostly hackberry. I also have a fair amount of hedge to do as well. I have a covered area I usually stack a few cords in then I move outside and stack as well. If I’m busy in the shop during heating season I’ll burn 3-4 cords a year. I get a lot from a friend who does roll off work and lot clearing plus a couple tree guys. I’m not picky about what comes in. The last four, yes four, roll off loads were mostly hackberry with some Osage, a few random Elm and another tree I’m not sure about.

Good looking stuff! It's amazing how fast it piles up (and how much work is there) when the wood starts accumulating like that! It's a truly blessed problem to have!!

Yes, it stood back up when I cut it off. It was a blow down.View attachment 217256
Those root balls, and the attendant pendulum effect can be dangerous!

Took down a big 'ol dead standing ash with the tree service. Was with the owner when we brought back the big stuff. Asked him to drop it by my pile. He asked if I was sure, that there was easier firewood than that. I said f* yeah I do, I aint sceered. Mostly good wood, very little punk. That leaves the smaller stuff for people who aren't as motivated. Get more better wood out of the big stuff, I'll take it every time. Plus there has been very little ash in the pile so far. Need some stuff in there that'll be ready to burn sooner... 20200121_115725.jpg 20200121_115811.jpg

20191221_163623.jpg Alot of the big ones come with plenty of smaller wood for when your feeling lazy.20200106_155748.jpg Or crazy this top is a twisted, tensioned mess but I like the challenge.
