Finally getting round to the ms250 thats been on my shelf for at least five years. Gotta replace chain adjuster mechanism, sprocket, and b&c.
My question is: which length, pitch, and gauge is best for this saw. Like to hear opinions since ive gotta start from scratch on that. thanks much

They cut pretty good with a picco setup, either a spur or P7 rim kit, whatever you prefer.

Obviously you sacrifice durability with PS chain but it cuts nice.

Cool thing about the rim kit is if you don't like picco you can just throw a .325 mini spline rim on and start over with .325.

I like them with a 16" bar and chain with both .325 and picco.

Any idea if that kit would work with an MS-210?

I have an 025 set up with picco 16inch.
Been using it that way for years and it cuts nice and fast and i do prefer sharpening the picco over .325. Cutting average firewood i prefer the picco but thinking about setting it up with . 325 .050, reason being i cut a lot of stringy brush off ditch banks with it and it seems when the tip of the bar bumps into something stringy it throws the chain very easy. My 023 with 14in picco same thing, both with newish bars and chains. Job i was working on last week probably about 10 minutes average or less before either would bump something and throw the chain . My ported 026 with .325, .050 standard kerf 16inch never threw a chain once so ended up my primary saw in the smaller stuff.
I am now looking for an 18 inch .325 .050 standard kerf. I figure my 67 drive link chains for my 026 that get stretched out will likely fit the 025 with a 18 inch 68 drive link set up.

Yes sir.

I forgot to add that with the stihl bar on the P7 rim I had to go to 56 drivers instead of 55 on the 16" stihl bar, 55 worked on some aftermarket bars. I guess the bar tails are different or something like that.

Thats great info

All my loops are 55 drivers so I will have to think it over unless I finally get a spinner/breaker set up and can get parts for Squeal and Oregon 3/8LP chain

I do have a brand new GB bar sitting around but my Squeal bar still has life left in it

Always something to think about and buy, but I guess it wouldn't be much of a hobby if we didn't tinker around

Cheers

55 will work on a 16" GB bar. I tried it when I bought a bunch of them from left coast for my 201's.

Weird you need 56 on a stihl bar with that P7 rim and 55 on oregon and GB bars

I thought I was doing something wrong when I put the rim kits on my 250s and 241s when the 55 driver chains wouldn't fit...it wasn't me.

Yeah I got mine from Left Coast as well and was sad when they folded

That would be a head scratcher to have stuffs not fit

:hollering:

I have looked and a shop in Australia was the only place I saw them if I am not mistaken

It’s been a couple years ago since I googled it so...

I seem to suffer from CRS a lot lately

I just did a quick search and Jacks Small Engines carries GB but the only bars for 3/8lp I saw were consumer grade laminated

Probably a good bar but certainly not in the same class as the Arbor Tech we got before

I am able to get a new 55 dl chain on by removing the c clip and washer, putting the sprocket on the chain first, then reinstalling it at the same time, works with spur or rim set up but is tight getting rim in between sprocket and bar, 56 dl would be easier, but how much adjustment does it leave you ? (That's using a stihl bar 7 TOOTH RIM)

56 works perfect with the stihl bar. Worked fine on the GB bar too.

I'm not going through all that just to make 55 drivers work.

For the 025 and MS250 the .325 on a 14 - 16" bar gets my vote, they have enough power to pull it well, the low profile/ picco stuff works better on smaller saws. The MS241 on down do alright with it.
