After I get my 088 done I'll start on my old ms880 it's a high hr saw and last of the good 88's it has the cast muffler! has flippy caps but none of the EPA chocked up crap like the stainless steel muffler ms880's of today.
It will be good to see how it's held up I've never pulled it down who know what the clutch looks like I've never spent a cent on apart from rims bars and chains but maybe a spark plug? that's about it lol.
Actually thinking about it I did buy a new front handle for it the old one warn thin sliding around in the back of the ute.
The flippy caps are original and never gave any trouble it's just had the basics clean the filter and blown off with air every so often.
I don't remember when I brought it was a long time ago early ish 2000's there abouts? was just a hard working work saw and showed no love until now that is the poor thing lol.

This is it my old man tried to destroy it on me! but she was to tuff being a Stihl and all lol
Regardless of cosmetics it was and still is a strong running saw.

There is one weakness in 088/880's saw's and that's the cranks I've seen a few snapped in my time and a fair few on the net over the year's.
The funny thing is the Chinese with there fake ms880's have copped the weak cranks in these saw's??.
It will be interesting when they hit the market how many snapped fail cranks show up with these superior quality Chinese cranks.
I do have a snapped crank here somewhere? but I couldn't find it at this min but here's an old junk 088 I dug out of me scrap pile arrow shows where they snap.

Here's a better pic of a 088/880 crank I just found you can see why they snap they need more meat on the left side just like the right side would of been bulletproof if Stihl had of done that.

I feel like this just confirmed my cad.

Up at 04:30, three hour round trip, just to be able to feel included in the wild thing jokes.

I have a brand new China ms880 crank it has more meat in that area.
Interesting got a pic? only AM cranks I've seen so far are an exact copy of the OEM cranks for the 088/880.
Would probably be good if the AM cranks hold up as OEM ain't what you would call cheap not here a anyway but don't think I could risk it to find out myself if they are any good or not..
