Racing pistons - At what level?

I love me some pop up piston action and frequently use them. I was just curious on the CCC and Dominant saw pistons and justifying them since they’re damn near the cost of a parts saw

Racing pistons - At what level?

Hello all, through the endless browsing for parts I have come across the racing pistons through CCC and Dominant Saw. I understand that the race pistons come with weight savings, better castings, etc, but I have one question. Seeing as I am still a saw builder with much to learn, my question is...

    Ms880 fuel issues

Hey y’all, I’ve done a top end rebuild on an 880 and it’s got me stumped. Tested spark and it’s nice and strong, but I can’t seem to get any fuel. The 880 carb needed rebuilt, so I threw on an 084 carb that was on a currently running well 084. Cranked and cranked and didn’t even smell fuel...

    455 Rancher Questions-Porting

I completely agree, but for some reason, my boss insisted on attempting to port this instead of any of our Stihl saws that I have experience on. Pop up piston is on the way already, so from what you all have said, I’ll just slap the piston in, maybe open the exhaust a little and call it a day...

    455 Rancher Questions-Porting

I’d love to put the 460 top end on it, but seeing as we use almost exclusively Stihl, he wanted it as budget as possible. Ordered a pop up for it today. Ports look super clean, so I guess I’ll just do the pop up and muff mod unless others have ideas‍♂️

    455 Rancher Questions-Porting

Hey y’all, I’ve some questions about a 455 rancher I’ve been asked to energize a little. I’m still fairly new at this. So far I’ve only done mild port jobs on an ms260, ms440(clone), and a 660(clone) and they turned out great, but this Husky has me baffled. I’ve read what I can find on the...

    Ms260 Rebuild by a beginner

Hey y’all, finally finished the 260. She turned out great. Ended up putting in a Meteor piston and Caber rings per everyone’s advice. I’ve not ran a 260, so I can’t speak accurately, but she does sound like there’s a little bit of pep at idle. I plan to break her in this week at work

I’ll get the thickness of the solder after work. And it is indeed a 44.7 mm bore

That’s without the gasket. I was expecting closer to .020 from what you’d mentioned previously

Finally made some progress on this saw. I used Mastermind’s method and removed the aluminum transfer and the bore looks great. Measured squish and it came out to what you see in the photo. Also remembered someone asking about the carb, so there is a pic of that as well. I’m waiting on impulse...

    Ms260 Rebuild by a beginner

I’ve been watching Mastermind’s videos, Tree Monkey’s, and Tinman and finding the common knowledge

    Ms260 Rebuild by a beginner

Managed to find a spare hour or so tonight to work on the 260. Haven’t made the degree wheel yet, so it was just some grinding. Ground some ridges in the intake the way Tinman does, cleaned up the exhaust and cleaned up the lower transfers. No timing was harmed in the making of these photos

I’ll take your word for it. Something about sandpaper on the cylinder walls makes me hesitant initially, but I guess it’ll be time to give it a go here soon

    Ms260 Rebuild by a beginner

Alright, so I finally got around to watching the mastermind videos, work has been crazy and taking my time. I have one question. Why is it necessary to go through sandpaper and then scotchbrite at the end? Could I just get a more coarse scotchbrite and go through the grits that way?
