Shindaiwa has always been a Landscaper company, they never were really marketed to Arborists or Loggers. The String Trimmers, Edgers, Blowers, and Hedge Trimmers are all full commercial units.

The 501P is a Mag case full professional saw. The 4910 is the detuned "Mid Range" version similar to what Husqvarna did with the 545 vs. 550 XP. The 492 Shindaiwa is the Red 4910, unfortunately there is no Red version of the 501P. :(

Rotary makes .325 Skip under their Copperhead name, part number 7325002, it's hard to get though.

Completely agree Bob, I do the same thing down here. Of the choices listed I went with the 501P for four reasons. 1) Cost: At $499.95 + Tax with an 18" bar it is $190.00 cheaper than the equivalent other brands. 2) Weight: It is both lighter and more compact than it's peers. 3) Simplicity...
