I’m not knowledgeable enough to offer any advice. but I want pictures and a build thread!

I do the “pull through with hemostat” trick and clip the buggered up end of the line off. a little WD40 or whatever oil helps it slide also.

I use a propane torch (but then again, I’ve never repainted nor powdered case halves) to heat cases to 300 or so dungarees Frankenstein. On Stihls when the powder starts to bubble I’m there. And I have the bearings in the deep freeze for a half hour or more prior.

I have the perfect compromise... trade him for the 288. ;)

Just re-read your post. Why sell the 288 to get a 661? I'd prefer the 288 myself.

I'll give you two Benjamins for it right now. ;) Seriously, though... I think it would bring $500 pretty easily in my neck of the woods, probably more if you're patient. Assuming it still starts easily and runs strong. Pictures would help us drool over it, too.

Points engines (2 and 4-stroke) are often easier to start than electronic ignitions. They'll throw spark at lower rpms. You can clean the points with the wife's nail-sander thing (whatever that's called) or (preferred) some folded-over fine sandpaper (like 600 or 1000 grit). I've done the...
