I'm sure that the Echo CS-1201 is a fine saw, but I'm interested in a 3120.

Here's an update. I installed the carb kit and the elbow I ordered, replaced the fuel lines and tank filter. I put some 32:1 in the tank and it runs!

I can find an early flywheel without issue, but knowing the part number for the early coil would be helpful if anyone knows it. From my understanding, late flywheel works with 272 coil but earlier flywheel is paired with earlier coil. The flywheels only differ in the location of the keyway...

Me too. That's why I'm asking about installing an old style coil/flywheel combination vs only installing an unlimited (272) coil.

Regarding swapping out to an unlimited coil, I'm curious why that's more commonly done than swapping out to the earlier 3120 12K coil with its corresponding flywheel. Are there not concerns about over-revving with the unlimited coil? I understand that either option requires carburetor modification.

Thanks for the link. I've read about the swap to a 272 coil along with other mods. From looking online, it appears that the 272 and 51 (along with a bunch of other other models) use the same coil. I've got a good 51 coil. Would that be a suitable replacement instead of one from a 272?

Do you know of a write up on how to do that?

How slow are we talking? 200 rpm or?

I've read about doing but haven't ever actually seen it done and am unfamiliar with how that bearing is configured. It sounds like a good idea to maximize cut width. Is drilling the tip a possibility with most roller tip bars? I've got an Oregon bar.
