Bottom row, the 49 on the left, Timber Bear 849 in the middle, and the Craftsman on the right. The 46 will get the treatment today. While all of these saws are basically identical, no two have been put together exactly the same and even the fasteners are varied. On the 42, 46, and 49...

I also found a 42cc, 46cc, and 49cc in the collection of Oregon test saws. I decided to clean up the 46 and 49 models for the display, I'll keep the 42 on hand as a parts saw if needed. I will be on the lookout for more of these saws, particularly if they are dressed up as a Remington, Troy...

I'm making this a Jenn Feng week, this Timber Bear 849 had very little use, cleaned up pretty nicely. Interesting that the Jenn Feng models I've worked on so far all use a K095 bar mount. I had a few NOS McCulloch bars in .325 with the K095 mount and never knew just when/where/why they went...

I did run the Craftsman a bit yesterday and I was surprised how well it did in my oak test log. I would still choose my 550XP or PM55 for a lot of cutting, but the Craftsman did not seem to be lacking in the HP department, and the chain oiler was certainly more than adequate. Mark

I understand they were also sold under the MTD banner. Jenn Feng & MTD signed a marketing agreement around 2003 to help distribute the Jenn Feng McCulloch products in the U.S. Mark

Jenn Feng McCulloch dressed as a Craftsman. These are interesting saws (to me) but not ones that I would use for a lot of cutting. I'll give it a good cleaning, try to make it run, then put it up front in the display. Mark

I believe Steve has correctly identified it, pancake muffler and compression release only fits the PM55. Ed - I have used JB Weld to secure a bar stud in a 10 Series oil tank before. If there is a crack in the tank as well, use some window screen and a bit more JB Weld to expand the patch and...

I repaired a few more PM6/Mini Mac starter pulleys this week. While looking for a suitable piece of material to reinforce the pulley someone brought in a 1" copper coupling that requires only minimal boring to achieve a nice tight fit. Once they are pressed in place I add a pop rivet to make...

Thanks Scott - I believe we figured that out a while back. I have a number of the SP80 type clutches and maybe one of the SP125 type. FWIW, there were both 3.4 and 3.7 In3 Eager Beavers and Timber Bears. In reality the difference in displacement was not quite as much as that, the "3.4" models...

When the engineering/manufacturing offices were in Tucson the assembly plant was in Hermosillo Mexico. Many of the 300, 600, and 32/35/38cc saws were assembled in Mexico. The PM3200 (Mini Mac) would have been assembled in Mexico as well. Electrolux spun off the Husqvarna OPE group in 2006...

McCulloch was still operating from their Tucson, AZ headquarters until the late 1990's and still building saws like the PM8200 up to the end. Sadly they were also building PM5700 and the whole 32/35/38cc line up as well. They were even building grey and yellow PM badged Mini Mac saws. Mark

Is this a legit JD variant of the Echo 302?

I have a few of the John Deere Echo saws and all have the Echo badge with model number as you have shown. Some will show orange paint under the yellow where it wears thin. Mark
