    Dirty Wood

I cut cable skidded logs almost always. Technique was mentioned but never really explained well. I plunge cut almost every round using 404 semi chisel and a HARDNOSED bar as it bores much easier than a roller tip. Start at about 2 O clok position just below the top of the log, plunge until...

Tips and tricks for uniform rakers

Those were fabbed out of tool steel. The vice itself is stainless steel and has a .002" tolerance. Shims need to be added/subtracted for different gauge of chain.

Best way to haul multiple saws

My saws live in the back seat all Winter. Put down a waterproof tarp, then a moving blanket, cardboard under the saws and a board to hold them in place. Not going to sacrifice space in the 8' box. Sure it smells like gas and oil, but it is a work truck, that is what I bought it for.

The Simington is very cool, A lot more of a learning curve with true square chisel.

Due to cutting cable skidded log cut offs, I have switched to 404 semi chisel on big saws, 395 and ported 288 with hard nosed bars, because the maintain sharp so much longer. Technique makes a huge difference too on how you cut, almost every round is plunge cut.

Deer seasons have ended, Coyote hunting time.

Buddies of mine run hounds for coyotes. Hounds are different critters, I don't even call them dogs. In a days race I have seen a pair put on 47 miles according to their tracking collars.

If one is going to cut a LOT of wood it takes a lot of wood. A scrounge here or there just doesn't cut it. Here is a normal year.

    2022Firewood season has started

I follow my logger buddies around and make contact with landowners to clean up the refuse after the job is done. Generally one spot can keep me going for a year. When they are in the area, they fill my 18', 10,000# trailer in minutes. This is this year's spot: I've spent two days now , it has...

    WANTED Blue Makita 7900

Good morning, I have a mint Dolmar 7900 that has the original bar on it. You can very faintly still see "Dolmar" on it. The only flaw is a crack in the chain cover. I have no idea how this happened, but has been repaired with JB weld. Can get more pics if desired. The 7900 was also before...

Wolf Ridge vs. Eastonmade vs. Brute Force vs.

Well I am a little biased, but another vote for A.E. Metalwerx. Pics were taken when I got it, now has 129 hours on it and two seasons, love it. There are many features that are not obvious, no oil cooler but it is running so cool I added insulation to the tank in the Winter as the tank...
