The Wood ID Thread ( or name this wood type )

Hey Lee Coltont is right that’s Gum. Couldn’t think of the name yesterday. Elm is similar but the elm around here has a noticeable heartwood and it’s more stringy. That seemed to be a lot less dense than elm too. Bark is different too.

    MCCULLOCH The official McCulloch thread

The saw was locked up. Piston/Cyl all scored. It looks like it was straight gassed because the saw itself is actually in really good shape. The clutch side bearing didn’t have much left of its needles and the crank looked like pushed to one side and the bearing wore into it a bit. I forget which...

I wouldn’t mind it if they were good. I like going new just for peace of mind and I’m already in there, but honestly it’ll only get used for fun so maybe 20 tanks a year type thing. So yeah I wouldn’t mind used. Thanks

63429B is listed as the flywheel side 87152 is the clutch side. I’m not sure if this is going to be a watch eBay everyday type thing or not but I haven’t had issues finding other crank bearings before; that’s normally the easiest part. That’s what my IPL says maybe they changed part numbers...

    MCCULLOCH The official McCulloch thread

Does anyone know of any aftermarket or OEM replacement for the SP81 crank bearings? I’m having a hell of a time getting either side and so is my supplier. Says he’s never seen one like the flywheel side with the shoulder it has. Any help would be appreciated. Matthew

Anyone have any luck importing a 288xp from Brazil?

That saw’s in my basement at the moment ;) I believe it was had from a dealer in NY. Not sure how or why, but that was the story.

Jonsered 2159 - My Sons First Rebuild. She Lives!!!

It’s funny when you were in school and everyone asked “what’s wrong with your hands” then you look down at them wondering what the hell they were taking about. I guess calluses and busted knuckles are a thing of the past now.

Metallica and saws? Doesn’t get much better than that. Cool thread as well. Good to see someone even younger than me doing these things.

What's everyone's preferred method of gasket removal

Razor blade then brass wire wheel on an electric impact just a bit. If you use a wire wheel make sure it spins in the opposite direction of the way the bristles are leaning. So basically if you have a well used wheel that has spun clockwise all it's life, don't spin it counter-clockwise; it'll...

    Homelite 770 GS Restoration

After blasting I dip the parts in some clean gas to get the majority of the dust off. Then quickly use some surface prep, tack cloth, then paint. Make sure you hit your flash times, don’t be like me and learn the hard way lol Looking forward to seeing it all together. Matthew

    372xp vs 576

That was a typo. I meant 576xp. My mind hasn’t been on saws in months. That’s what college does to ya I guess I’ll stand by the 372xp, but they’re both good saws. Really couldn’t go wrong with either I think.

    372xp vs 576

I second that. Don’t feel the 572xp is worth the extra weight for what you get, and the 372xp seems to have a broader power-band. 572xp is smooth for sure, but it’s not like you need anymore vibration dampening than the 372xp has to offer IMO
