Any ideas on this material? Is it a dust seal for that intake-cylinder area?

    371 sealing question

While there is an oem O-ring for that spacer, I have successfully used grease and proper clutch torque to seal it. Others have used sealant, yes.

Does anyone have any of the intake manifold gasket material from a 3700/ Craftsman 3.7? I have one on my bench and it disintegrated. I couldn’t find it on eBay. Not the actual gasket… the thick material that fits around the intake flange.

    Bakerized Chainsaws?

That is the ebay guy who screwed me over on that 064 cylinder and then flipped it again on ebay. Another OPE member bought the same damn cylinder. I should have not returned it and sent it as scrap to an overseas factory. Sdesan4.

Chain Breakers and making homemade chain

Many, yes. There’s no guarantee on a perfect fit for different brands. I just used Archer presets and links to spin up two Blount (possibly Oregon) .325 chains from a leftover roll. One has to closely inspect and “feel” if the presets are right. I don’t have a lot of time on Archer presets in...

Chain Breakers and making homemade chain

Like Shaun and others, you are also a gift to the saw community. I’ve spun up dozens of chains from junk that was on its way to the scrap bin. I wouldn’t want to sell them (not always sold on longevity and usually have oddball cutters) but I definitely use the heck out of them myself.

    MS460 crank question

I’ve seen this in other 1122s, yep. Those saws are typically pushed hard in big wood and have a ton of bf on the ground before they go. It’s amazing how well a mag case (with or without a steel insert) can hold up in the conditions a saw can see in its lifetime.

    MS460 crank question

I’ll defer. New 460 cranks are not a slip fit on new bearings. I’d love to chat with a Stihl engineer about those tolerances and why so many 76.5cc 1128s seem to be loose there. JacobJ and others can chime in. The one “loose” crank I’ve used was still tight cold-to-cold in the bearing. It...

    They last forever, too.

    MS460 crank question

Funny you should ask this. I’ve seen several 046/460 cranks that were spun. However, new or “low hour” cranks have not been slip fit for me. I just tried another in my shop and it’s an interference fit that requires heat (like most Stihl). Some Dolmar shafts were loose and may have used...

I grabbed tim’s case. I’ll leave this open in case anyone else has just a crank that they don’t need. Thanks!!
