    Rakers?

That's what was happening. I just did a quick field sharpen with it still in the mill, just a couple of rips left. I usually go at them the "correct" way. I did notice changing the angle and pressure on the file did stop the squeeks. Getting in a hurry and just trying get to the end causes me to...

    Rakers?

Probably just hadn't noticed the the shiny tops before. I have a Holzforma G660 and run Holzforma chains. I bought a Stihl square grind chain when I first started this big log,43", and imeadiately hit a clump of 1/4" dia. nails. The 660 pulls like a rented mule, no complaints. I'm obviously just...

    Rakers?

So I went to the country today to wittle a oak into slabs and dust. Half way through the first rip decided the chain needed sharpening. I noticed the tops of the rakers were all shiny. The chain has never been sharpened, just 3 1/2 cuts on it. Is it common for the cutters to wear below the...

    Stihl bar adapter

Yep, just looked at it. Guess I have to buy a saw to fit the bar now.

    Stihl bar adapter

Does anyone know of a bar adapter to use an 880 bar on a 660? I found one on the bay but it stays out of stock. Called the local shop and stihl doesn't make one. I bought a good deal on a 48" bar with 3 chains and scratched my head for about 5 minutes trying to figure out why it wasn't working...

    What about carbide coated chains?

Well I finally got a chance to run it today. My $40 holzforma chains run circles around it as far as speed. For $80 ill just stick with my chinesium. When I finish the log that had all the nails ill give a try. I'm sure it has its uses, I just don't see milling being one of them.

Can I remove just one link to save a stretched chain that still has good teeth?

It still runs, it just takes all the adjustment. I have 3 others just like it and they aren't quite there. It cuts great and sharpens pretty easy, I was just wondering if it stretched anymore if taking out a link would through something off.

    What about carbide coated chains?

The pictures are best I can get right now using my tablet. Cheap camera on it. I agree it'll probably cut slower, has a grit finish.Ill try to get logged it on my phone tomorrow for a better picture of the cutters. I think it looks pretty much like you'd expect. Kind of stove up right now. Had...

    What about carbide coated chains?

So I really thought I was buying a carbide tooth chain at first. After talking to the guy about making a 52" I decided why not try it. I'm old enough to remember having a choice between regular and carbide tipped circular saw blades in the 80s, obviously no contest, but what about a carbide...

Can I remove just one link to save a stretched chain that still has good teeth?

I've been procuring a huge pecan tree the last few days and haven't had that bar back on the saw. So, ill go ahead and drop the China bomb, they're both Holzforma. Its a 660 only been used for milling big hardwoods, 43" oak right now. Ill drop in a oem adjuster when this one quits. Used a 28"...

Can I remove just one link to save a stretched chain that still has good teeth?

I have a good chain that is at the limit to tighten, but cutters have plenty of life left. Will this affect the pitch enough to cause a problem?
