I have a ported 372xp saw always ran good. A few weeks ago the clutch broke. Fixed it. Decided to check the plug to see how it's been burning. Plug was black black. Checked the rpm was a little over 12,000 out of wood. Leaned out the h got the saw to 13,500. Seemed way better. But started like it starving for gas til warmed up. Was struggling some in wood. After a tank checked the plug. Had no color. Turned the h ccw. Saw is at 12,450rpm shows a hint of to rich on the plug. I'm frustrated. Any help? It's a 372xp oe. Ported decked cylinder 8pin rim. Unlimited coil. 20in bar. big 1in piped mufflerShould I start over on carb setting? What should setting should I start at L,H ? To get started?

Start with the low speed screw, lean and richen it until it stumbles in the middle of this is where you want to start, I like it a hair to the rich side here. Check for acceleration. Now set the idle speed to less than clutch engagement about 2,700 to 2,900 rpm. Once the idle is all taken care of you can move on to the high speed adjustment. Forget the tachometer, go put it in a log and listen for it four stroking when you pull out of the cut and disappear when you resume cutting. If it's four stroking while cutting it's too rich, if it's not four stroking at all it's too lean. Once you get this worked out you can dig that tach out again and see what your proper tune is.

Your L is a probably a touch lean, give it 1/8 turn richer (counterclockwise). 13,500 is usually plenty safe on pretty much all 372xp stock or ported. You could probably go a bit higher. But make sure it holds tune after a couple cuts and still 4 strokes out of wood.

Finally got to try out the 372xp today and mess with the tune. Started all over. L screw is now 1/1/4 turns out. H screws is a a hair over 1 turn. Checked it in wood ran good no bog,no smoke,no struggle. Ran a tank thru it then checked with the tach. Idle is 3200. Goes to 13,150 outta wood. If I lean the H more won't be far from seat. Being a ported saw. Figured it would go higher in rpm? I dunno I guess I'll leave it. Pictures are my test tree I dropped yesterday. Dead ash

Did you check and clean the air filter first?

3200 at idle is a bit fast for me. You might need to open up the L screw another 1/8 turn. Or get it to idle a touch lower with the idle screw. Chains usually sneak forward at that idle speed in my experience.

Yep they are removed. Chain doesn't move. Idle is now set at 2900. Still can't get over 13,150 outta wood

Unless I lean more on the H screw. Will be a half turn out from seat in order to get I4,000 or more

Sounds like you need a carb kit the way you have the carb settings don't make sense is the high idle screw been touch you might want to back that out and then ree do the low side of the carb.

I turned the high idle up a tad. Chain doesn't lunge. Cut ash today with a 20in bar. Easy to stall out the chain in wood if ya lean on it some

Do a compression test on it then do a pressure and vac test on it if you can you may have a vacuum leak somewhere.
