Very soon after these saws get a test run posted the recall will be over and they’ll be released on the US market. This is all they’re waiting for. I can feel it in my left knee, or maybe that’s arthritis.........

I just saw an article where farmers are buying 40 year old tractors because they can work on them. It is crappy IMHO and I'm one who writes software for a living (for over 25 years).

Hopefully it will get to a point where the module is smart enough to deal with basic part changes.

If having the saw use a computer is an advantage, they will go that way. On street outlaws those guys aren't turning mixture screws on carbs, they plug in the laptop and make changes to how the engine delivers power etc. And make another run down the road. Consumers don't do that, they drive the car daily without needing a computer when they change wear parts on the car. Hopefully saws can get to the point where you don't need to bring a laptop into the woods!

Recalibrate after changing an air filter? :risas3:

That might just be a recommendation to keep it running optimal. I suspect it would still run acceptable without a recal but idk. I'm cerious if you replaced a clogged air filter with a new one if theres a possibility it might run too lean and damage itself.

So, do you think you could make a program that us knuckleheads could be able to program the fuel curve in the 500i? I hope so cause you're the only one that answered the add. I believe this is the final thing that will take this saw from a garden tool to a race thoroughbred.

From what I saw Randy post, I'm not sure you can not just reset the saw yourself … it seems like the plug in just ensures that it worked.

Also, if it has never been run, it may not need a re set!

Also, as others have stated, I can not imagine that the M Tronic will not adjust to conditions, but it may take a bit. I was very disappointed that when my 261 went rich, it took about 6 tanks to fix itself, but it did fix itself!

Good Morning,

I have it from a good source that the saw will over time tune itself for best performance, barring major mechanical changes. MDG is not the answer to running issues or tuning.

At some point, with porting, compression, air leaks, blocked filters, etc, the saw will be asked to compensate beyond it's capabilities and it will not run properly if at all.

I will repeat something I mentioned earlier, 50:1 with fresh 89 octane and premium oil is all that is recommended.

This is still just a chainsaw, that must run well under all conditions. Not rocket science.

It will be interesting when Randy puts mix in these saws and starts them. I imagine he has some concerns as to how they will adjust to mods, they might go bonkers...:hollering: Damn computer saws!

I'm gonna reset em before they leave here.

"They" say that these saws might be fine without resetting, and that might be true.

But....I have about 7000.00 worth of hard to get saws sitting here. Why take that chance?

I've had the Autotune reader for years, I've been interested in having the Stihl version as well.....so.

It will be cool to see what the MDG has to say about em anyhow.

I was walking to my truck through the gravel parking lot of the pizza cafe the other day and saw something shiny. It was an ancient condenser from an ignition system. I looked at my 2017 Tacoma and flashed back to my 1976 FJ40 Landcruiser

Yeah it took a few tools and a few minutes to gap the points and time it but you could fix just about anything on that rig with a screwdriver and a rock

Truly the good old days

Randy has $7,000 sitting there in 3 CHAINSAWS

That Landcruiser cost just over half that brand new

Boggles my mind

If they documented the hardware interface and messaging used sure. But it is proprietary tech and they likely will not release what they've done like OBD II for cars. Thus forced to try and reverse engineer which is what use breese was trying to do with an mtronic he started slicing apart. If they publish an API I would love to mess with it.... doubt that will happen.

Hey Randy,

From what I have been reading, you may need cable #5910 840 0405 and it does not show on parts list yet.

Good Luck, Larry. HOS
